Targeted preemptive therapy according to perceived risk of CMV infection after kidney transplantation

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2016
Background: The identification of the best strategy to manage cytomegalovirus infection is hampered by uncertainties regarding the risk/benefit ratios of universal prophylaxis versus preemptive therapy, the impact of indirect cytomegalovirus effects and ...

Inside-Out Evacuation of Transitional Protoplanetary Disks by the Magneto-Rotational Instability

open access: yes, 2007
How do T Tauri disks accrete? The magneto-rotational instability (MRI) supplies one means, but protoplanetary disk gas is typically too poorly ionized to be magnetically active. Here we show that the MRI can, in fact, explain observed accretion rates for

A Biomarker‐Driven Ovary–Endometrium Organ‐on‐a‐Chip Mimicking 3D Multicellular Complexity and Menstrual Cyclicity for Predicting Reproductive Toxicity

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We present a dual‐organ, biomarker‐integrated ovaryendometrium organ‐on‐a‐chip that recapitulates 3D tissue complexity, menstrual cycle dynamics, and hormonal crosstalk. This platform enables real‐time, cell‐typespecific fluorescent readouts of reproductive toxicity using ANGPTL4 and SERPINB2 as early‐response reporters.

Residual Stress in Wheels: Comparison of Neutron Diffraction and Ultrasonic Methods, with Trends in RCF [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The critical damage mechanism on many GB passenger train wheels is Rolling Contact Fatigue (RCF) cracking in the rim. Evidence from field observations suggests that RCF damage occurs much more quickly as the wheelsets near the end of their life.

Lipid Droplet‐Localized Spindle Apparatus Coiled‐Coil Protein 1 Regulates Lipid Droplet Distribution

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
SPDL1‐L, a long isoform of SPDL1, is identified as a bona fide lipid droplet‐associated protein that acts as a dynein adaptor to drive perinuclear clustering of lipid droplets. By linking lipid droplets to the microtubule network, SPDL1‐L extends the function of SPDL1 beyond mitosis and contributes to lipid droplet organization and nuclear remodeling ...

Acetabular Rim Variants

open access: yesVideo Journal of Sports Medicine
Background and Indications: Acetabular rim ossification variants have a reported incidence of 17%. These variants include labral calcifications, os acetabuli or acetabular rim fractures, and labral ossification. Labral calcifications are small soft calcification deposits within the labrum in patients with femoroacetabular ...

The Cryptococcus neoformans Alkaline Response Pathway: Identification of a Novel Rim Pathway Activator

open access: yesPLoS Genetics, 2015
The Rim101/PacC transcription factor acts in a fungal-specific signaling pathway responsible for sensing extracellular pH signals. First characterized in ascomycete fungi such as Aspergillus nidulans and Saccharomyces cerevisiae, the Rim/Pal pathway ...

Contribution of Gli1+ Adventitial Stem Cells to Smooth Muscle Cells in Atherosclerosis and Vascular Injury

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Gli1+ adventitial stem cells (ASCs) have been thought to generate smooth muscle cells (SMCs) in atherosclerosis. Using a dual‐recombinase lineage tracing to exclude ectopic labeling, Wang et al. found that Gli1+ ASCs do not contribute to SMCs in atherosclerotic plaques.

FLEXIBLE ROBOTIC LINE FOR THE PROCESSING OF CAR RIMS AND PRODUCT IMPROVEMENT USING FINITE ELEMENT SIMULATION

open access: yesNonconventional Technologies Review, 2019
This paper is about the manufacturing process of a rim from aluminum alloy after the molding process. We describe the deburring process with laser cutting machine, surface finishing with vibration and establish the critical points on an eventual impact ...

Rim curvature anomaly in thin conical sheets revisited

open access: yes, 2011
This paper revisits one of the puzzling behaviors in a developable cone (d-cone), the shape obtained by pushing a thin sheet into a circular container of radius $ R $ by a distance $ \eta $ [E. Cerda, S. Chaieb, F. Melo, and L.
