Measurement and Analysis of Ingestion Through a Turbine Rim Seal
Experimental measurements from a new single stage turbine are presented. The turbine has 26 vanes and 59 rotating blades with a design point stage expansion ratio of 2.5 and vane exit Mach number of 0.96. A variable sealing flow is supplied to the disc cavity upstream of the rotor and then enters the annulus through a simple axial clearance seal ...

Cholesterol‐enriched plasma membranes in hepatocellular carcinoma impede drug penetration. Cholesterol (+)‐liposomes act as membrane‐specific detergents, extracting cholesterol and reducing barrier function without cytotoxicity. Following endocytosis, cholesterol transfers from endosomes to liposomes and is metabolized in the ER.

Parametric Single Gap Turbine Rim Seal Model With Boundary Generation for Asymmetric External Flow [PDF]
In an effort to provide predictions for hot annulus ingestion flows across turbine rim seals into rotor-stator wheel-space cavities, this paper describes a parametric single gap turbine rim seal model, which contains of several different sub- or part ...

A minimally invasive optical window enables stable, long‐term imaging of peripheral nerves in vivo at single‐axon resolution. Dynamic processes of degeneration, regeneration, and cellular remodeling are visualized across multiple time scales within the same nerve region, providing a unique platform to study a variety of anatomical and molecular events ...

Assessment of Scaling Rule for Hot Gas Ingestion in Representative Turbine Rim Seal System for Large Industrial Gas Turbines [PDF]
An assessment has been carried out on the applicability of scaling the hot gas ingestion depth in terms of a non-dimensional sealing parameter for a rim seal cavity wheelspace system representative of that in an industrial gas turbine for power ...

A field study of manhole cover leakage
Leaking manhole covers add inflow to sanitary sewer systems. These are the most accessible components of the sewer system, and so potentially the cheapest to repair or modify, to reduce inflow.

Inspired by the Mexican jumping bean, this study presents a centimeter‐scale, electronics‐free robot that merges principles from both the animal and plant kingdoms. A thermo‐responsive actuator mimicking larval motion, enclosed within a uniquely shaped plant‐seed‐inspired shell, generates jumping, rolling, flipping, sliding, and climbing through ...
