Picolinic acid promoted oxidative decarboxylation of phenylsulfinylacetic acid by Cr(VI)

open access: yesBulletin of the Chemical Society of Ethiopia, 2016
The kinetics and mechanism of picolinic acid promoted reaction of phenylsulfinylacetic acid (PSAA) with Cr(VI) was carried out in aqueous acetonitrile medium under pseudo first order conditions. The reaction follows Michaelis-Menten type of kinetics with

Pioglitazone plus (−)‐epigallocatechin gallate: a novel approach to enhance osteogenic performance in aged bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Aged human bmMSCs are seeded in the scaffold. Osteoblastic induction can slightly increase cell's bone‐forming activity to produce bone‐like tissues, shown as the sporadic xylenol orange‐stained spots (the lower left image). Notably, pioglitazone plus EGCG co‐treatment dramatically increases cell's bone‐forming activity and bone‐like tissue production (

Tropospheric Degradation of Perfluorinated Aromatics: A Case of Hexafluorobenzene

open access: yesCroatica Chemica Acta, 2015
The major tropospheric removal process for hexafluorobenzene is its oxidation by hydroxyl (OH) radicals. However, there is no information on the reaction mechanism of this important process.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Coordination Chemistry of Glycolic Acid and Uranyl

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu
Glycolic acid (α-hydroxyacetic acid, HA) is a simple, water-soluble carboxylic acid ligand commonly found in the environment. It can coordinate with metal ions through both its carboxyl and hydroxyl oxygen atoms.

HIV‐1 establishes immediate latency in T cells expressing the viral Nef protein

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Nef is a viral protein often omitted from HIV‐1 reporter viruses. Consequently, its role in viral latency is unclear. We developed three novel dual reporter HIV‐1 derivatives that express Nef and allow for detection of latent and productive infection. Using these reporters, we show that Nef does not affect the establishment of immediate viral latency ...

Pre‐Diagnostic Features of Multiple Sclerosis in a Diverse UK Cohort: A Nested Case–Control Study

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Background Many patients with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) experience nonspecific symptoms prior to diagnosis. This period—the 'MS prodrome'—has been described in socio‐economically homogeneous cohorts to date. It remains unclear to what extent events prior to an MS diagnosis differ according to social determinants of health. Methods We conducted a

Potentiometric investigation of acid-base equilibria of two newv pyrimidine derivatives in various methanol–water media [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of the Serbian Chemical Society, 2006
The acid-base properties of 1-amino-5-benzoyl-4-phenyl-1H-pyrimidine-2-one (L1) and 1-amino-5-benzoyl-4-phenyl-1H-pyrimidine-2-thione (L2) were investigated potentiometrically at an ionic strength of 0.10M(LiCl) in 19.8, 33.6 and 55.9 % (v/v) methanolâ ...

Expanding Hereditary Spastic Paraplegias Limits: Biallelic SPAST Variants in Cerebral Palsy Mimics

open access: yesAnnals of Clinical and Translational Neurology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSP) are rare neurodegenerative disorders marked by spasticity and lower limb weakness. The most common type, SPG4, is usually autosomal dominant and caused by SPAST gene variants, typically presenting as pure HSP.
