CML ring oscillators: oscillation frequency

ISCAS 2001. The 2001 IEEE International Symposium on Circuits and Systems (Cat. No.01CH37196), 2002
In this paper an analytical model of the oscillation frequency of a differential CML ring oscillator is proposed. The model helps to choose the bias current value to optimize speed, and it is useful to estimate the oscillation frequency changes associated with the bias current change and to process tolerances.

PHASE BEHAVIOR IN A RING OF STOCHASTIC OSCILLATORS [PDF]

open access: possibleAdvances in Complex Systems, 2008
We analyze the phase response of a system shaped as a ring of overdamped bistable and noisy oscillators coupled directionally. This device, which operates in the regime of stochastic resonance, may act as a short-term memory device. In the present work we show that in this regime the system presents partial phase synchronization with an average ...

Oscillation frequency in CML and ESCL ring oscillators

IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I: Fundamental Theory and Applications, 2001
In this paper a model to accurately evaluate even in a pencil-and-paper manner the oscillation frequency of a ring oscillator made up by a CML or ESCL differential gate is proposed. The model allows us to simply estimate the oscillation frequency changes due both to the bias current change and to process tolerances.

Chimeras on a ring of oscillator populations

Chaos: An Interdisciplinary Journal of Nonlinear Science, 2023
Chimeras occur in networks of coupled oscillators and are characterized by coexisting groups of synchronous oscillators and asynchronous oscillators. We consider a network formed from N equal-sized populations at equally spaced points around a ring. We use the Ott/Antonsen ansatz to derive coupled ordinary differential equations governing the level of ...

ON THE NONLINEAR MODELING OF RING OSCILLATORS

Journal of Circuits, Systems and Computers, 2009
We develop higher-order nonlinear models of three-stage and five-stage ring oscillators based on a novel inverter model. The oscillation condition and oscillation frequency are derived and compared to classical linear model analysis. Two important special cases for five-stage ring oscillators are also studied. Numerical simulations are shown.

Mismatch Characterization of Ring Oscillators

2007 IEEE Custom Integrated Circuits Conference, 2007
We investigate the frequency matching of ring oscillators to study the matching of the non-static operation of identical high speed analog, digital and RF circuits. The oscillator test structures on a 0.25 mum CMOS technology operate in the 500 MHz to 3 GHz range.

Crossover Ring Oscillator PUF

2017 18th International Symposium on Quality Electronic Design (ISQED), 2017
Ring Oscillator (RO) Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) is one of the most popular silicon PUFs which exploit manufacturing variations during the chip fabrication process. RO PUF can generate secret bits by comparing the frequency difference between two ROs.

Jitter in ring oscillators

IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, 1997
Jitter in ring oscillators is theoretically described, and predictions are experimentally verified. A design procedure is developed in the context of time domain measures of oscillator jitter in a phase-locked loop (PLL). A major contribution is the identification of a design figure of merit /spl kappa/, which is independent of the number of stages in ...

Interconnected ring oscillators

Journal of Optics A: Pure and Applied Optics, 2000
Threshold and operation conditions of the interconnected photorefractive ring oscillators are investigated, using the grating action method. Three types of two connected oscillators are considered, the first one consisting of two transmission grating crystals, the second one of two reflection grating crystals, and the third one of one transmission and ...
