Ring resonator thermometry

2016 IEEE Photonics Conference (IPC), 2016
We report on our study of a temperature response of ring resonator based sensors and their interchangeability over a wide temperature range. Our results suggest that with a proper fabrication process control the interchangeability in photonic thermometers can be on a 0.2 °C tolerance band.

Fiber Ring Resonator

SPIE Proceedings, 1984
All-fiber ring resonators using ultra low loss directional couplers have been fabricated with finesse as high as 500. Resonator finesse is no longer limited by coupler loss and can be increased by lowering fiber loop loss. New polarization effects in the resonator have been observed indicating polarization dependent coupling in the directional coupler.

An unstable ring resonator

IEEE Journal of Quantum Electronics, 1973
An unstable ring resonator has been studied, both theoretically and experimentally; quasi-traveling-wave operation is obtained with a high ratio of the powers of the two opposite rotating waves and with diffraction-limited output beams.

Ring Laser Resonators

2020
The ring cavity gives flexibility in resonator design, such as ability to incorporate long collimated beam sections with large beam diameters in order to extract power from large volumes of laser media. Particular attention is paid to the non–planar ring resonator because of its novel features and importance in recent applications in the ring laser ...

Out-of-resonance measurement scheme for ring resonator gyroscopes

2015 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Proceedings, 2015
A new modulation and demodulation scheme for improving the performance of ring resonator gyroscopes is proposed. The method is compatible with out-of-resonance excitation of the ring, so relaxing requirements on control loop performance, and provides large immunity from changes in gains of optical and electrical paths.

Plasmonic ring resonators

CAS 2011 Proceedings (2011 International Semiconductor Conference), 2011
This work presents the investigation of the interplay between two different types of losses in plasmonic ring resonators: i) the losses associated with the finite curvature radius and ii) the ohmic losses associated with the penetration of the electromagnetic fields inside the metal.

The Optical Ring Resonator

Bell System Technical Journal, 1965
Expressions are derived for the stability parameter, spot size, and wavefront curvature of a Gaussian beam in a ring resonator containing up to four spherical mirrors unequally spaced. Higher-order transverse modes and aperture effects are not considered.

Unstable resonator misalignment in ring and linear toroidal resonators

Applied Optics, 1983
Optical axis motion in a ring resonator is investigated as a function of resonator mirror misalignment by constructing an equivalent paraxial model and applying the ray matrix formalism. Analytical expressions are derived for the optical axis motion. The paraxial model of the ring is shown to imply a linear resonator as a specific case, and the ring ...
