Theory of the width of rings formed by electron-diffraction
Proceedings of the Physical Society, 1939The widths of the diffraction rings formed by transmitted electrons are examined from the point of view of Bethe's theory. It is shown that these angular widths are much less than the range of angle of incidence giving strong reflection, an exception occurring in the Bragg case, where the beam enters and leaves by the same crystal face.

Coulomb Interaction in Finite-Width Quantum Rings
2013Due to the particular confinement and reduced dimensionality of quantum rings, Coulomb interaction plays an important role for their electronic structure. In this chapter, we discuss the dependency of the ground state of an idealized quantum ring contained a small number of interacting electrons on geometric parameters like ring radius, radial ...

Varieties of solvable Lie rings of finite width
Mathematical Notes, 1998A lattice \(L\) is called a lattice of a finite width if there is a natural \(n\) such that every antichain of \(L\) has \(\leq n\) elements. For a prime number \(p\) let us denote by \({\mathcal M}_p\) the variety of Lie rings given by the identities \(px=0\), \(xy(zt)=0\), \(xyz^p=0\), \(xy^px^{p-1}=0\).

Measurement of annual ring width of log ends in forest machinery
SPIE Proceedings, 2008The quality of wood is of increasing importance in wood industry. One important quality aspect is the average annual ring width and its standard deviation that is related to the wood strength and stiffness. We present a camera based measurement system for annual ring measurements.

Eddy currents and magnetic moments of planar rings of arbitrary width
Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, 2013We analyze the response of a metallic ring to an applied time-harmonic and spatially uniform magnetic field. The self-consistent current distribution and magnetic moment are compared with that from an equivalent LR circuit model and the range of parameters (size, frequency and conductivity) for the model applicability is analyzed.

Power Fairness in A Scalable Ring-Based Wireless Mesh Network with Variable Ring-Width Design
IEEE GLOBECOM 2008 - 2008 IEEE Global Telecommunications Conference, 2008The wireless mesh network (WMN) is a promising solution to support wireless broadband applications. However, mesh networks face the power unfairness issue. Compared to the users far away from the gateway, the users near the gateway have to relay more traffic and consume more power.

Persistent current in finite-width ring with surface disorder
Physica B: Condensed Matter, 2008We explore the surface disorder effect on the persistent current in a finite-width ring. In the strong disorder regime, the persistent current increases with surface disorder strength, while it decreases in the weak disorder regime. The result is at variance with the observation in bulk-disordered ring.

Wood density of western hemlock: effect of ring width
Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 1994Wood density of western hemlock (Tsugaheterophylla (Raf.) Sarg.) was determined by X-ray densitometry of strips from breast-height samples consisting of rings 20–24 from the pith. Ring parameters were averaged over the 5 years for each strip. Wood density was negatively correlated with radial growth rate. Average wood density dropped from 0.47 to 0.37
