OPTICAL KINEMATICS OF WAVE-SWEPT SURGE CHANNEL RIP CURRENTS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Aerial imagery of the rocky shoreline (RS) at Hopkins Marine Station in Pacific Grove, CA, was captured with an unmanned aerial vehicle. Imagery was georectified and post-processed to observe the surface flow of 2 persistent, stationary rip currents ...

Dynamic Self‐Clickable Decellularized Matrix Hydrogels for Regulating Vascularity and Enhancing Muscle Regeneration

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Dynamic decellularized hydrogels are prepared using bovine decellularized small intestine submucosa (SIS) norbornene (dSIS‐NB). Bovine dSIS contained significant amounts of disulfide‐rich fibrillin‐I, enabling ‘self‐clickable’ thiol‐norbornene gelation and spatiotemporal tuning of hydrogel physicochemical properties.

A large-scale laboratory experiment of rip current circulations over a moveable bed: drifter measurements

open access: yes, 2009
The present paper presents a laboratory experiment of rip current circulations over a moveable bed. The rip current characteristics over four distinct beach morphologies, exhibiting more or less developed nature-like bar-rip morphology, were investigated.

Flexible Unusual Ternary‐Component Graded‐Modulus Dielectric Films with High‐Density Capacitive Energy Storage

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Hierarchical PP–LSR107–BaTiO3 nanocomposite films are fabricated by one‐step extrusion and stretching for roll‐to‐roll manufacture, combining high energy storage and processing flexibility. LSR107 surrounds BaTiO3‐rich regions, locating amorphous PP, decreasing defects, and introducing deep traps that homogenize the electric field and suppress charge ...

A Flexible Metamaterial Absorber via Loss Engineering for Large‐Area Ultra‐Broadband Infrared Extinction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Designed and demonstrated a flexible metamaterial absorber via loss engineering for large‐area ultra‐broadband infrared extinction, providing a new method for miniaturization of absorbers and flexible optical devices. ABSTRACT The advancement of compact and wearable optical systems is critically limited by the lack of high‐performance, integrable ...

Synergistic Dual Slip‐Link Toughening of a Water‐Rich Double Network Hydrogel Combining Slide‐Ring and Highly Entangled Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Two distinct slip‐link mechanisms – the slide‐ring pulley effect and highly entangled chains – are combined in a water‐rich double network hydrogel, achieving synergistic toughening, near‐complete reversibility, and exceptional friction tear resistance at >$>$91 wt.% water.

The impact of outer-bar alongshore variability on inner-bar rip dynamics

open access: yes
A field-calibrated morphodynamic model (MIKE21) is used to investigate the importance of the dimensions of a rip channel across an outer sand bar to the hydrodynamics and morphological evolution of an inner sand bar and rip channel for a range of initial
