Flow Characteristics of the Rip Current System near a Shore-Normal Structure with Regular Waves

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2023
Rip currents are the strong narrow seaward current produced by waves breaking on the coast. Of the many types of rip currents, the present study investigates, experimentally and numerically, the rip current system produced by the wave reflection on a ...

RIP - CURRENTS

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1972
The generation and stabilization of rip - current circulation patterns is considered herein. An analytic model is developed to simulate the wave hydrodynamic processes in the nearshore zone, strongly influenced by the local bottom topography. The wave induced nearshore circulation pattern is computed and the results compared to prototype field data.

Analyzing and Ranking Factors Affecting Organizational Rip Currents [PDF]

open access: yesپژوهش‌های مدیریت عمومی, 2017
In this study, to discover variables effecting on organizational rip currents, at first the literature (books, journals, databases, websites, etc). was reviewed and 15 in-depth interviews was done by experts.

Analysis of Rip Current Characteristics Using Dye Tracking Method

open access: yesAtmosphere, 2021
Rip currents are strong water channels flowing away from the shoreline. They can occur on any shore with breaking waves. Rip currents play a significant role in changing the topography of shallow water regions by transporting large amounts of bed ...

RIP CURRENTS AND THEIR CAUSES

open access: yesCoastal Engineering Proceedings, 1978
"The outworn dogmas of science seem to be particularly concentrated in the discussions of the ocean in geology books". Beginning with this controversial statement, F. P. Shepard in 1936 tried to lay to rest the concept of the undertow, which had been debated in the pages of Science for over a decade.

RipFinder: real-time rip current detection on mobile devices

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
Rip currents present a significant safety risk to beach tourists and coastal communities, resulting in hundreds of annual drownings all over the world. A key contributing factor to this danger is the lack of awareness among beachgoers about recognizing ...

Estimations of rip current rescues and drowning in the United States [PDF]

open access: yesNatural Hazards and Earth System Sciences, 2019
Rip currents are the greatest hazard to swimmers on surf beaches, but due to a lack of consistent incident reporting in many countries, it is often difficult to quantify the number of rip-current-related rescues and drowning deaths occurring along surf ...

Wave-Filtered Surf Zone Circulation under High-Energy Waves Derived from Video-Based Optical Systems

open access: yesRemote Sensing, 2021
This paper examines the potential of an optical flow video-based technique to estimate wave-filtered surface currents in the nearshore where wave-breaking induced foam is present.
