Shifts in Redox Formal Potentials Accompanying the Incorporation of Cationic Complexes in Perfluoro Polycarboxylate and Polysulfonate Coatings on Graphite Electrodes [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
The formal potentials of several redox couples incorporated in coatings of a perfluoropolycarboxylate on graphite electrodes were measured and compared with the formal potentials of the same couples in homogeneous solution.

Coacervates Made of Elastin‐Like Polypeptides Fused with Melanocyte‐Stimulating Hormone and Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein Enhance Skin Wound Healing in Spinal Cord‐Injured Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Pressure skin wounds are frequent complications after spinal cord injury (SCI), with impaired healing due to vascular and immune deficits. Elastin‐like polypeptides (ELP) fused to α‐MSH (MSH‐ELP) or MCP‐1 (MCP‐ELP) are developed and tested on these wounds. The resulting nanoparticles are non‐toxic and bioactive, and they enhance macrophage recruitment,

Field Measurements of a High-Energy Headland Deflection Rip Current: Tidal Modulation, Very Low Frequency Pulsation and Vertical Structure

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering, 2020
Headland rips, sometimes referred to as boundary rips, are rip currents flowing against natural or artificial obstructions extending seaward from the beach, such as headland or groynes. They can be driven either by the deflection of the longshore current

Analysis of the dynamic response of multielement semiconductor lasers [PDF]

open access: yes, 1985
We present a derivation of the dynamic response of a semiconductor laser consisting of more than one active element. We show that the amplitude and phase of the modulated cavity adiabatically follows the complex resonance of the composite cavity; and ...

Rip Current Spacing as an Eigenvalue

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1978, 1978
Mass, momentum and wave action conservation laws, including the radiation stress, are used to obtain a rip current spacing as an eigenvalue. A coastal region is divided into two parts: offshore region and surf zone separated by a breaker line. Only the case of normal incidence of the waves is considered.

Modular Control of PEG‐Poly(2‐Oxazoline) Co‐Assembly Enables Tunable Aggregate Properties for Intraocular Pressure Management

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A thermo‐responsive poly(2‐oxazoline)‐based injectable formulation is developed to modulate intraocular pressure (IOP) in both normal and hypotonic eyes. By adjusting the PEG content, the aggregation behavior is finely tuned, enabling IOP elevation without long‐term deposition.

Characteristics and dynamics of surfzone transverse finger bars [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Patches of transverse finger bars have been identified in the surf zone of Noordwijk beach (Netherlands). They consisted of three to nine elongated accumulations of sand attached to the low-tide shoreline.

Rip-Current and Coastal Topography

open access: yesCoastal Engineering 1976, 1976
At the 1974 Conference on Coastal Engineering (Copenhagen), the -writer proposed a new theory on the mechanism of generation of ripcurrent and cuspidal coast that the alongshore homogeneous structure of wave field and movable sedimental bottom (that is two-dimensional wave setup and bottom topography) is unstable to a small perturbation, the motive ...

Smart Face Masks as Wearable Respiratory Sensors: A Review of Sensor Technologies, Materials, and Future Directions

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in smart face masks that actively monitor breathing. By integrating humidity, gas, temperature, pressure, strain, and triboelectric sensors, these masks track key respiratory parameters in real time. The article summarizes sensor mechanisms, compares performance across studies, and discusses challenges and future ...

Modeling Rip Current Systems around Multiple Submerged Breakwaters

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Multiple submerged breakwaters (MSBWs) are commonly used coastal protection structures due to their specific advantages over the emerged ones. Rip currents, as the inevitable natural hazard in the gaps of these constructions, are investigated numerically
