ABSTRACT The Brook Trout (Salvelinus fontinalis) is a globally distributed nonnative species that threatens native salmonids in coldwater streams. Understanding the factors regulating Brook Trout densities in coldwater refugia is critical to effective management, so we investigated (a) fine‐scale drivers of Brook Trout abundance and (b) factors ...

Modelling riparian buffers for water quality enhancement in the Karapiro catchment [PDF]
The use of riparian land buffers is widely promoted as a method of mitigating the effects of sediment and nutrient runoff from intensive land use in New Zealand.

Evaluating Suitability for Surface Managed Aquifer Recharge to Enhance Dry‐Season Stream Flows
Identifying suitable sites for surface MAR projects to enhance dry‐season stream flow requires evaluating the geology of the aquifer, depth to groundwater, soil permeability, topographic slope, the distance between the infiltration basin and receiving surface water, and other factors.

LANDOWNER DECISION MAKING ABOUT RIPARIAN BUFFERS [PDF]
A two-stage model is used to examine a landowner's decision to use riparian buffers. First, the farmer chooses whether to continue farming or to sell the land for development.

Climate‐only models predict severe habitat contractions by 2100, especially in the Amazon, Cerrado and Caatinga, while southern and coastal Atlantic Forest areas remain refugial. Including artificial light at night increased projected stability and apparent suitability gains, especially in central and eastern South America.

Case study of exploited riparian corridors: rapid assessment of ecological health for riparian buffer width [PDF]
Riparian corridors are areas immediately adjacent to flowing waters. They are significant in ecological terms as a transitional zone between aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems.

Urbanization drives turnover in dragonfly species composition, traits, and habitat conservation value. Natural stream sections have a higher conservation value (higher DBI) due to presence of specialists. Properly managed urban streams can support diverse dragonfly assemblages.

Riparian zones are important transitional ecosystems that exist between aquatic and terrestrial systems. These zones are rich in biodiversity and provide vital ecosystem goods and services to communities in South Africa and globally. Unfortunately, their

Abstract Rivers and streams exhibit inherent variability in environmental conditions, particularly in water temperature and stream discharge. These factors can impact fish growth through both direct (i.e., physiological) and indirect (i.e., ecosystem productivity) mechanisms.
