In its natural habitat, the soil bacterium Bacillus subtilis often has to cope with fluctuating osmolality and nutrient availability. Upon nutrient depletion it can form dormant spores, which can revive to form vegetative cells when nutrients become ...

Aβ42 promotes the aggregation of α‐synuclein splice isoforms via heterogeneous nucleation
The aggregation of amyloid‐β (Aβ) and α‐synuclein (αSyn) is associated with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. This study reveals that Aβ aggregates serve as potent nucleation sites for the aggregation of αSyn and its splice isoforms, shedding light on the intricate interplay between these two pathogenic proteins.

In this work, we reveal how different enzyme binding configurations influence the fluorescence decay of NAD(P)H in live cells using time‐resolved anisotropy imaging and fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM). Mathematical modelling shows that the redox states of the NAD and NADP pools govern these configurations, shaping their fluorescence ...

Neutrophil deficiency increases T cell numbers at the site of tissue injury in mice
In wild‐type mice, injury or acute inflammation induces neutrophil influx followed by macrophage accumulation. Mcl1ΔMyelo (neutrophil‐deficient) mice lack neutrophils, and in response to muscle injury show fewer macrophages and exhibit strikingly elevated T‐cell numbers, primarily non‐conventional “double‐negative” (DN) αβ and γδ T cells.

The yeast mitoribosome assembly factor Rsm22 contains a [4Fe‐4S] cluster that is matured by the mitochondrial iron–sulfur cluster assembly (ISC) machinery. Defects in ISC components result in impaired mitochondrial protein synthesis due to a mitoribosome assembly defect.

Comparative study on freeze-dried lactic cheese starters and ripening cultures for the production of camembert cheese : a thesis submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of Master of Food Technology, Massy [i.e. Massey] University, Albany, New Zealand. [PDF]
Background and Methodology The key to success in producing cheeses is the performance of the starter cultures (Parente and Cogan, 2004). Storage of freeze-dried cheese cultures at refrigeration and ambient temperature or higher provides convenience ...

C‐mannosylation is a unique form of protein glycosylation. In this study, we demonstrated that ADAMTS1 is C‐mannosylated at Trp562 and Trp565 in human testicular germ cell tumor NEC8 cells. We found that C‐mannosylation of ADAMTS1 is essential for its secretion, processing, enzymatic activity, and ability to promote vasculogenic mimicry. These findings
