Heterophyllin: A New Adenia Toxic Lectin with Peculiar Biological Properties

open access: yesToxins, 2023
Ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs) are plant toxins that were identified for their ability to irreversibly damage ribosomes, thereby causing arrest of protein synthesis and induction of cell death.

Upconversion Nanoparticles Embedded Photonic Contact Lens for Transepithelial Corneal Crosslinking Using Hyaluronate – Riboflavin Conjugate

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A minimally invasive, transepithelial corneal cross‐linking (TE‐CXL) approach is presented using upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs)‐loaded contact lenses (UCLs), after topical delivery of hyaluronate–riboflavin conjugates. The NIR‐to‐UV/blue light conversion by UCNPs in a UCL can activate riboflavin for TE‐CXL, resulting in the biomechanical strength ...

Synergistic Fluorine and Cyanide Co‐Modification to Reinforce Photoinduced Excitons Formation and Transfer for Efficient CO2 Photoreduction

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An advanced F‐doped and ─CN group co‐modified FCCN is developed. Due to the synergistic effects of co‐modification in promoting photogenerated exciton generation, enhancing charge kinetics, expanding active interfacial areas, and optimizing CO2 interfacial reactions, the FCCN photocatalyst demonstrates excellent catalytic performance and high ...

Ribosome-Inactivating Proteins from Plants: A Historical Overview

open access: yesMolecules, 2016
This review provides a historical overview of the research on plant ribosome-inactivating proteins (RIPs), starting from the first studies at the end of eighteenth century involving the purification of abrin and ricin, as well as the immunological ...

Solvent‐Free Bonding Mechanisms and Microstructure Engineering in Dry Electrode Technology for Lithium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Dry electrode technology revolutionizes battery manufacturing by eliminating toxic solvents and energy‐intensive drying. This work details two promising techniques: dry spray deposition and polymer fibrillation. How their unique solvent‐free bonding mechanisms create uniform microstructures for thicker, denser electrodes, boosting energy density and ...

Spectrally Tunable 2D Material‐Based Infrared Photodetectors for Intelligent Optoelectronics

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intelligent optoelectronics through spectral engineering of 2D material‐based infrared photodetectors. Abstract The evolution of intelligent optoelectronic systems is driven by artificial intelligence (AI). However, their practical realization hinges on the ability to dynamically capture and process optical signals across a broad infrared (IR) spectrum.

A notion of geometric complexity and its application to topological rigidity

open access: yes, 2010
We introduce a geometric invariant, called finite decomposition complexity (FDC), to study topological rigidity of manifolds. We prove for instance that if the fundamental group of a compact aspherical manifold M has FDC, and if N is homotopy equivalent ...

Shape‐Morphing Nanoengineered Hydrogel Ribbons as Hemostats

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study introduces a self‐assembling, shape‐morphing nanoengineered hydrogel ribbon system that rapidly forms porous aggregates in situ for efficient hemostasis in trauma and surgical applications. Abstract Rapid and effective hemorrhage control remains a major challenge in trauma and surgical care, particularly for complex or noncompressible wounds.

Computing Topological Persistence for Simplicial Maps

open access: yes, 2014
Algorithms for persistent homology and zigzag persistent homology are well-studied for persistence modules where homomorphisms are induced by inclusion maps.

Contact Lens with Moiré Patterns for High‐Precision Eye Tracking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This work presents a passive contact lens for high‐precision eye tracking, integrating a microscopic moiré grating label. The parallax‐induced shift of macroscopic moiré patterns enables angle measurement with 0.28° precision using a standard camera under ambient light.
