Next‐generation proteomics improves lung cancer risk prediction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This is one of very few studies that used prediagnostic blood samples from participants of two large population‐based cohorts. We identified, evaluated, and validated an innovative protein marker model that outperformed an established risk prediction model and criteria employed by low‐dose computed tomography in lung cancer screening trials.

PCR-free and minute-scale electrochemical analysis of porcine DNA adulteration via molecularly amplified DNA sandwich assay

open access: yesSensors International
The increasing incidence of meat adulteration and mislabeling poses significant challenges in terms of food safety and consumer trust. This study proposes an electrochemical DNA biosensor for detecting porcine mitochondrial DNA in tainted meat products ...

Fuzzy Reasoning for the analysis of risks in geotechnical engineering Application to a French Case [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
The analysis of risks induced by unstable cliffs is one of the major and important tasks in geotechnieal engineering, This analysis should take into account the fact that some engineering parameters that are necessary for any risk analysts around ...

Monitoring of circulating tumor DNA allows early detection of disease relapse in patients with operable breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Monitoring circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) in patients with operable breast cancer can reveal disease relapse earlier than radiology in a subset of patients. The failure to detect ctDNA in some patients with recurrent disease suggests that ctDNA could serve as a supplement to other monitoring approaches.

Data mining-based screening of prevalent mixture systems in aquatic environments: A case study of antibiotics in the Yangtze River Basin

open access: yesEcotoxicology and Environmental Safety
Chemical pollution in real-world environment often involves exposure to combinations of thousands of chemicals. However, due to the vast number of possible combinations, it is nearly impossible to conduct comprehensive mixture toxicity tests and risk ...

Developing evidence‐based, cost‐effective P4 cancer medicine for driving innovation in prevention, therapeutics, patient care and reducing healthcare inequalities

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The cancer problem is increasing globally with projections up to the year 2050 showing unfavourable outcomes in terms of incidence and cancer‐related deaths. The main challenges are prevention, improved therapeutics resulting in increased cure rates and enhanced health‐related quality of life.

Risk Analysis in Civil Engineering [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
Until fairly recently there has been a tendency for structural engineering to be dominated by deterministic thinking, characterised in design calculations by the use of specified minimum material properties, specified load intensities and by prescribed procedures for computing stresses and deflections.
