RoB 2: a revised tool for assessing risk of bias in randomised trials

open access: yesBritish medical journal, 2019
Assessment of risk of bias is regarded as an essential component of a systematic review on the effects of an intervention. The most commonly used tool for randomised trials is the Cochrane risk-of-bias tool. We updated the tool to respond to developments

Response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in early breast cancers is associated with epithelial–mesenchymal transition and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Epithelial–mesenchymal transition (EMT) and tumor‐infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) are associated with early breast cancer response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC). This study evaluated EMT and TIL shifts, with immunofluorescence and RNA sequencing, at diagnosis and in residual tumors as potential biomarkers associated with treatment response.

Autoimmunity and risk assessment.

open access: yesEnvironmental Health Perspectives, 1999
Among the issues dealing with identifying potential adverse immunologic effects (i.e., suppression, hypersensitivity, or autoimmunity) associated with xenobiotic exposure, general agreement exists among the regulatory and pharmaceutical communities that predictive tests for autoimmunity are in most need of development in order to improve risk ...

Developing a framework of minimum standards for the risk assessment of alien species

open access: yes, 2018
1. Biological invasions are a threat to biodiversity, society and the economy. There is an urgent need to provide evidence-based assessments of the risks posed by inva-sive alien species (IAS) to prioritize action.

Peripheral blood proteome biomarkers distinguish immunosuppressive features of cancer progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Immune status significantly influences cancer progression. This study used plasma proteomics to analyze benign 67NR and malignant 4T1 breast tumor models at early and late tumor stages. Immune‐related proteins–osteopontin (Spp1), lactotransferrin (Ltf), calreticulin (Calr) and peroxiredoxin 2 (Prdx2)–were associated with systemic myeloid‐derived ...

Adverse prognosis gene expression patterns in metastatic castration‐resistant prostate cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
We aggregated a cohort of 1012 mCRPC tissue samples from 769 patients and investigated the association of gene expression‐based pathways with clinical outcomes. Loss of AR signaling, high proliferation, and a glycolytic phenotype were independently prognostic for poor outcomes, and an adverse transcriptional feature score incorporating these pathways ...

Nontraditional Risk Factors in Cardiovascular Disease Risk Assessment: Updated Evidence Report and Systematic Review for the US Preventive Services Task Force

open access: yesJournal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), 2018
Importance Incorporating nontraditional risk factors may improve the performance of traditional multivariable risk assessment for cardiovascular disease (CVD).

TOMM20 as a driver of cancer aggressiveness via oxidative phosphorylation, maintenance of a reduced state, and resistance to apoptosis

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TOMM20 increases cancer aggressiveness by maintaining a reduced state with increased NADH and NADPH levels, oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS), and apoptosis resistance while reducing reactive oxygen species (ROS) levels. Conversely, CRISPR‐Cas9 knockdown of TOMM20 alters these cancer‐aggressive traits.
