ELM Suppression and Flow Damping with N=1 RMP Fields in Tokamaks Plasmas [PDF]

open access: possible, 2021
Controlling large edge localized modes (ELMs) is critical for tokamaks operating in H-mode, due to potentially severe consequences on material damages caused by ELM bursts in future large scale devices such as ITER [1]. Resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) has been extensively applied to mitigate or suppress ELMs [2].

Influence of mean radial electric field on particle transport induced by RMPs in tokamak plasmas

Physics of Plasmas, 2018
The quasi-linear theory of the particle diffusion coefficient including the finite Larmor radius effect and the mean radial electric field (Er without shear) in a stochastic magnetic field is derived. The theory has been verified by comparing with test particle simulations and previous theory.

Impact of increasing plasma-wall gap on plasma response to RMP fields in ITER

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion
Abstract The impact of increasing plasma-wall gap on controlling edge-localized modes (ELMs) is numerically evaluated for the ITER 5 MA/2.65 T H-mode scenarios with full tungsten wall, based on the MARS-F computed plasma response to the applied n= 3–5 (n is the toroidal mode number) resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) fields.

Toroidal modeling of plasma response to high-field side RMP in HL-2A

Plasma Physics and Controlled Fusion
Abstract Application of resonant magnetic perturbation (RMP) is a reasonably mature technique for controlling edge-localized mode (ELM) in high-confinement mode tokamak plasmas. The high-field side (HFS) RMP coils were recently installed in the HL-2A tokamak. This study systematically models the plasma response to the (

Particle simulations of RMP fields effects in the COMPASS tokamak

2018
The use of Resonant Magnetic Perturbation (RMP) coils is as an experimental technique for mitigating or suppressing large Edge Localized Modes (ELMs) in a number of tokamaks. In this work, we introduce a newly developed extension of the EBdyna_go code (introduced in [1]) that was designed to resolve the full-orbit of charged particles, in a ...

Toroidal modelling of core plasma flow damping induced by RMP fields in ASDEX Upgrade

2019
Resistive plasma response to the n=1 RMP field is systematically investigated for a high-beta hybrid discharge in ASDEX Upgrade. Both linear and quasi-linear response are modelled using the MARS-F and MARS-Q codes, respectively. Linear response computations show a large internal kink response when the plasma central safety factor q0 is just above 1 ...
