Too hot for comfort: Elevated temperatures influence gene expression and exceed thermal tolerance of bigmouth shiners, Ericymba dorsalis

open access: yesJournal of Fish Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Environmental and associated ecosystem change may affect the persistence of fish species based on their ability to adapt to changing conditions, including decreasing flows and rising water temperatures. Exceeding the thermal tolerances of stream fish will likely result in a loss of ability to maintain metabolic processes.

Bacterial Extracellular Vesicles in the Pathogenesis and Treatment of Liver Diseases

open access: yesJournal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, EarlyView.
Liver diseases are a major global health challenge, with current treatments inadequate. This review highlights the role of bacterial extracellular vesicles in liver inflammation, fibrosis, and metabolism. We also explore these from commensals and probiotics, their protective effects, and discuss research challenges and future therapeutic potential ...

GeARF5/GeIAA33‐GeSWEET14 module balances the secondary metabolic biosynthesis to increase the yield and quality in Gastrodia elata

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Plant Biology, EarlyView.
Auxin signaling regulates the formation of vegetative propagation corms in Gastrodia elata by regulating sugar‐acid interconversion, which in turn regulates polysaccharide and starch biosynthesis as well as biosynthesis of the bioactive metabolite gastrodin.

Review of expansion microscopy combined with advanced imaging modalities

open access: yesJournal of Microscopy, EarlyView.
Abstract Expansion microscopy (ExM) is a powerful high‐resolution imaging technique that enhances the spatial resolution of conventional light microscopy by physically enlarging biological specimens by embedding and cross‐linking them in a swellable polymer network.

Whole genome sequencing of historical specimens from the world's largest fungal collection yields high‐quality assemblies

open access: yesNew Phytologist, EarlyView.
Summary High‐throughput molecular studies of museum specimens (museomics) have great potential in biodiversity research, but fungal historical collections have scarcely been examined, leading to no comprehensive methodological assessments. Here we present a whole genome sequencing (WGS) project conducted at the Fungarium of the Royal Botanic Gardens ...
