Role of 5S ribosomal RNA in polypeptide synthesis

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1969
50S ribosomes obtained from Escherichia coli dissociated by dialysis into 5S rRNA and 44S particles, noting partially uncoiled ...

Photoregulation of transfer and 5S ribosomal RNA synthesis in Chlorella [PDF]

open access: possiblePlanta, 1977
The effect of blue and red light on the synthesis of transfer and 5S ribosomal RNA in autotrophic cultures of Chlorella pyrenoidosa was studied by pulse labeling experiments with tritiated guanosine. Compared with darkness or red light (679 nm), blue light (457 nm) of low intensities (quantum flux: 0.5-5×10(-10) mol photons cm(-2) s(-1)) stimulated ...

Promoter region for yeast 5S ribosomal RNA

Nature, 1977
WE have sequenced the DNA region immediately preceding the structural gene for the 5S ribosomal RNA of yeast (Saccharomyces cerevisiae). Since the 5S RNA, a component of the larger ribosomal subunit, has a 5′ triphosphate1,2, this molecule is likely to be the direct product of the gene, unmodified by maturation at the 5′ end.

Role of 5S ribosomal RNA in polypeptide synthesis. II. Dissociation of 5S ribosomal RNA from 50S ribosomes in Escherichiacoli

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1968
SOS ribosomes obtained from E. coli were dissociated into 5s rRNA and -44s particles in which at least one of the protein components was missing. Dissociation was produced by dialysis vs. 0.5 M NH4Cl in Mg++-free medium and the resulting 44s particles were isolated by centrifugation through Mg’+-free sucrose solution.

Escherichia coli ribosomal 5S RNA-protein L25 nucleoprotein complex: effects of RNA binding on the protein structure and the nature of the interaction.

Biochemistry, 1984
The complexes of three variants of Escherichia coli 5S RNA with ribosomal protein L25 have been studied by high-field proton nuclear magnetic resonance.

Morpholino spin-labeling for base-pair sequencing of a 3'-terminal RNA stem by proton homonuclear Overhauser enhancements: yeast ribosomal 5S RNA.

Biochemistry, 1987
Base-pair sequences for 5S and 5.8S RNAs are not readily extracted from proton homonuclear nuclear Overhauser enhancement (NOE) connectivity experiments alone, due to extensive peak overlap in the downfield (11-15 ppm) proton NMR spectrum. In this paper,

500-MHz proton homonuclear Overhauser evidence for additional base pair in the common arm of eukaryotic ribosomal 5S RNA: wheat germ.

Biochemistry, 1987
A "common-arm" fragment from wheat germ (Triticum aestivum) 5S RNA has been produced by enzymatic cleavage with RNase T1 and sequenced via autoradiography of electrophoresis gels for the end-labeled fragments obtained by further RNase T1 partial ...

Identification and assignment of base pairs in three helical stems of Torulopsis utilis ribosomal 5S RNA and its RNase T1 and RNase T2 cleaved fragments via 500-MHz proton homonuclear overhauser enhancements.

Biochemistry, 1986
Imino proton resonances in the downfield region (10-14 ppm) of the 500-MHz 1H NMR spectrum of Torulopsis utilis 5S RNA are identified (A X U, G X C, or G X U) and assigned to base pairs in helices I, IV, and V via analysis of homonuclear Overhauser ...

Metabolism of 5S RNA in the absence of ribosome production

Cell, 1974
Abstract The results presented in this report show that during early development of Xenopus laevis the synthesis of 5S RNA occurs in blastula embryos, whereas the synthesis of 18S and 28S RNA cannot be detected until gastrulation. Thus the initiation of synthesis of the three ribosomal RNAs is not coordinate during early development.

The nucleotide sequence of the 5S ribosomal RNA from a photobacterium

Journal of Molecular Evolution, 1975
Comparative sequencing studies provide powerful insights into molecular function and evolution. The sequence for 5S ribosomal RNA from Photobacter strain 8265 is eighteen base replacements removed from that of Escherichia coli. Of these, the vast majority involve a G or C becoming an A or U.
