Transfer RNA nucleotidyltransferase

1990
Publisher Summary All tRNA molecules contain, at the 3′ terminus, the identical-CCA sequence that is required for their acceptor and transfer functions. In prokaryotic cells, no discrete pattern has emerged. In laboratory strains of Escherichia coli , all tRNA genes sequenced encode the -CCA sequence, and mutant strains devoid of tRNA ...

Transfer RNA identity.

The FASEB Journal, 1993
Since its theoretical inception, the tRNA molecule has been identified and many of its functions have been described in terms of its structure. However, the molecular basis for the aminoacylation specificity of tRNA has remained largely unsolved until recently, when substantial progress has disclosed fundamental aspects of this process.

Transfer-RNA: The early adaptor

Naturwissenschaften, 1981
Evolutionary history of tRNA is studied by comparative sequence analysis of two specified tRNA's at various phylogenetic levels and of tRNA families within four different species. Criteria are developed that allow 1) to distinguish between convergent and divergent evolution, 2) to determine the mechanism of divergence and 3) to estimate the degree of ...

Aminoacy1 Transfer RNA Formation. VI. Binding of Cations to Transfer RNA and Its Role in Aminoacy1 Transfer RNA Formation1

The Journal of Biochemistry, 1976
The role of cations (polyamines and Mg2+) in isoleucyl-tRNA formation catalyzed by purified isolecuyl-tRNA synthetase [EC 6.1.1.5] from Escherichia coli was studied. It was found that spermine, spermidine, and Mg2+ bind to tRNA and that when bound to these cations, tRNA acts as substrate of aminoacylation without requiring further cations.

Nucleotide Sequence and Function of Transfer RNA and Precursor Transfer RNA

1973
At present, we have to consider the functional interactions of the tRNA molecule without knowing its three-dimensional structure. Comparison of tRNA sequences has shown that they have a common hydrogen-bonded structure defined by the cloverleaf arrangement, and in addition they have certain common sequences or correlated sequences which may also be ...

Studies on transfer RNAs

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1972
Abstract 1. 1. Treatment of tRNA fMet with hydroxylamine caused specific modification of cytosine residues among a number of constituent nucleobases and only three out of the 26 cytosine residues in the tRNA were modified. The modified tRNA was found to charge methionine up to 64 % of its original acceptance. 2. 2.

Transfer RNA in reticulocyte maturation

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1981
The disappearance of tRNA during the maturation of rabbit reticulocytes under the stress of phenylhydrazine-induced hemolysis was studied. The tRNA content of reticulocytes and of erythrocytes derived from them was compared. The results show that tRNA persists longer after reticulocyte maturation than ribosomes and than the ability to incorporate amino

On the origin of the transfer RNA molecule

Journal of Theoretical Biology, 1992
Data and arguments are given in favour of the hypothesis that the primitive tRNA molecule may have originated from a direct duplication event involving one of the two halves of the tRNA molecule. It seems that a molecule capable of assuming a hairpin structure was involved as a precursor in this duplication.

Transfer RNA and Cytokinins

1977
When it was observed that soluble RNA (sRNA) played a vital role in protein synthesis, this low-molecular-weight species of RNA attracted much attention. The typical sRNA molecule, with a molecular weight of about 25,000 and a sedimentation constant of 4S, is a polynucleotide chain containing about 80 nucleotides.

Studies on transfer RNA and transfer RNA genes in Drosophila melanogaster

1977
In the present study Drosophila melanogaster was used to define the organization and expression of tRNA genes. The three major Drosophila valine tRNAs were isolated and purified by standard chromatographic techniques. Nucleoside analysis indicated that of these tRNAs only tRNA₄Val contained inosine.
