Phylogeny of transfer RNA

Origins of Life, 1984
Phylogenetic trees of transfer RNA specific for phenylalanine, methionine initiator glycine and valine are constructed. Although the exact relationships between taxa cannot be obtained from the mere analysis of the sequences some conclusions can be drawn about the evolution of this molecule.

Evolution of transfer RNA

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1973
Abstract Evolution by gene duplication and subsequent divergence is indicated by similarities common to 43 different transfer RNAs. Pairwise comparisons of these tRNAs reveal additional similarity, greatest for certain pairs of tRNAs for the same amino acid in the same organism, and also occurring in certain pairs of tRNAs for different amino acids ...

Crystallization of Transfer RNA

Nature, 1968
A bacterial transfer RNA (tRNAFMet) has been obtained in micro-crystalline form. Its probable unit cell dimensions have been deduced from X-ray powder photographs.

Transfer RNA nucleotidyltransferase repairs all transfer RNAs randomly

Journal of Molecular Biology, 1977
Total Escherichia coli transfer RNA was converted to tRNA-C-C by periodate oxidation and partially repaired with either E. coli or rabbit liver tRNA nucleotidyltransferase. Aminoacylation of the partially repaired molecules indicated that individual tRNA species were each repaired to the same extent as the total population of molecules.

Mitochondrial transfer RNAs in yeast: identification of isoaccepting transfer RNAs

Biochemistry, 1978
To delineate the total number of tRNAs encoded by yeast mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), we have examined mitochondrial tRNA preparations for the presence of heterogenic isoaccepting tRNAs. Analyses of /sup 3/H-labeled aminoacylated mitochondrial tRNAs by reversed-phase column chromatography (RPC-5) coupled with hybridization to mtDNA detected only one major

GENETICS OF TRANSFER RNA

Annual Review of Genetics, 1972
Initially the only way of identifying tRNA genes was by DNA-RNA hy bridization. The discovery that informational suppression may result from muta tions in tRNA genes has not only allowed their genetic analysis but has led to the isolation of mutants important in understanding the function, structure, and synthesis of tRNA.

Transfer RNA in Hepatomas

1978
1. Altered column-chromatographic profiles of a number of hepatoma and other tumor aminoacyl-tRNAs have been observed, most frequently for tRNAPhe, tRNAAsp, tRNAAsn, tRNATyr, tRNAHis, and tRNASer. 2. The chemical basis for the chromatographic alterations is still obscure, except that a tRNAPhe in Morris hepatoma 7777, which is not ...

Effect of Spermine on Transfer RNA and Transfer RNA-Ribosome Interactions

1988
Translation of genetic message requires a coordianted interplay of more than a hundred kinds of macromolecules. Besides the ribosomes, which are multicomponent ribonucleoprotein particles by their own nature, molecules of transfer RNA, aminoacyl-tRNA synthetases, soluble protein factors and mRNA are involved in the process.

A study of transfer RNA methylation

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Nucleic Acids and Protein Synthesis, 1973
Abstract The process of enzymatic methylation was studied with yeast tRNAVal1, using as a source of enzyme the protein fraction precipitated from the 105 000 × g supernatant of both rat liver and hepatoma by 50 % (NH4)2SO4 saturation. Under the conditions chosen, the extent of methylation with the hepatoma enzyme was about 1 mole of methyl ...

Effects of 5-fluorocytidine on mammalian transfer RNA and transfer RNA methyltransferases

Biochemical Pharmacology, 1979
Abstract Effects of 5-fluorocytidine on mouse liver tRNA and mouse liver tRNA methyltransferases were investigated. tRNA isolated from drug-treated tissue was shown to contain 5-fluorocytidine and 5 fluorouridine. The amounts of all 5-substituted pyrimidine nucleosides such as 5-methylcytidine, 5-methyluridine, pseudouridine and 5,6-dihydrouridine ...
