RNA Localization: Getting to the Top

Current Biology, 1994
Localizing gurken mRNA dorsally in Drosophila oocytes seems to be the first step in dorsoventral polarity establishment. Gurken, which resembles TGF alpha, may signal directly to dorsal follicle cells through the receptor Top.

Messenger RNA transport and localization

Current Opinion in Cell Biology, 1990
SpeciEcity can be imparted to subcellular regions by the setting and subsequent localization of proteins and RNA Although the study of RNA trafficking is in its infancy, the process has been documented already in large germ cells and in asymmetric differentiated cells where visualization of preferential RNA compartmentalization is feasible.

Messenger RNA localization

2015
This chapter is focused on the localization of mRNAs1-6, including the localization of microRNAs in neurons. It describes fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH). Fluorescence uses in situ hybridization wherein a complementary antisense nucleic acid probe is labelled typically with a fluorescent probe.

Intracellular RNA sorting, transport and localization

Nature Structural & Molecular Biology, 2005
RNA localization and translational control are crucial for cellular fine-tuning of gene expression in space and time. A recent meeting in Tucson, Arizona pointed out mechanisms conserved across different species and cell types that contribute to the establishment of cell polarity and cell migration.

[RNA localization in the cytoplasm].

Medecine sciences : M/S, 2005
RNA localization in subcytoplasmic areas is a process known for more than twenty years, and more than a hundred RNAs have now been shown to be spatially regulated. In most cases, RNA localization is involved in cell polarity, either by reading spatial clues and translating them into a spatial regulation of gene expression, or more directly by ...

RNA Localization Meets Wingless Signaling

Science Signaling, 2001
In many tissues in many organisms, messenger RNA (mRNA) is not randomly distributed throughout a cell, but is targeted and accumulated in specific subcellular locations. Signal transduction pathways can be extremely sensitive to gradients of signaling proteins and represent a cellular phenomenon where RNA localization may be important.
