Banana plants use post-transcriptional gene silencing to control banana streak virus infection [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Banana streak virus (BSV), the causative agent of banana streak disease, is a plant pararetrovirus belonging to the family Caulimoviridae, genus Badnavirus.

Identification of RNA silencing components in soybean and sorghum

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2014
BackgroundRNA silencing is a process triggered by 21–24 small RNAs to repress gene expression. Many organisms including plants use RNA silencing to regulate development and physiology, and to maintain genome stability. Plants possess two classes of small

TRPM8 levels determine tumor vulnerability to channel agonists

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
TRPM8 is a Ca2+ permissive channel. Regardless of the amount of its transcript, high levels of TRPM8 protein mark different tumors, including prostate, breast, colorectal, and lung carcinomas. Targeting TRPM8 with channel agonists stimulates inward calcium currents followed by emptying of cytosolic Ca2+ stores in cancer cells.

Tobacco mosaic virus movement protein enhances the spread of RNA silencing.

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2008
Eukaryotic cells restrain the activity of foreign genetic elements, including viruses, through RNA silencing. Although viruses encode suppressors of silencing to support their propagation, viruses may also exploit silencing to regulate host gene ...

Techniques for RNA in vivo imaging in plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Since the discovery of small RNAs and RNA silencing, RNA biology has taken a centre stage in cell and developmental biology. Small RNAs, but also mRNAs and other types of cellular and viral RNAs are processed at specific subcellular localizations.

Identification of an RNA silencing suppressor encoded by a mastrevirus.

open access: yesJournal of General Virology, 2014
Wheat dwarf virus (WDV) is a DNA virus belonging to the genus Mastrevirus of the family Geminiviridae. In this study, we report that the Rep protein encoded by WDV is a RNA silencing supressor as determined by co-infiltration assays using transgenic ...

The anticancer effect of the HDAC inhibitor belinostat is enhanced by inhibitors of Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The pan‐HDAC inhibitor belinostat increases the expression of the pro‐apoptotic proteins Bim, Puma, and Noxa and induces apoptosis in ovarian cancer cell lines and patient‐derived tumor organoids when used at high concentrations. Moreover, inhibiting the anti‐apoptotic proteins Bcl‐xL or Mcl‐1 sensitizes these preclinical models to the cytotoxic effect

Az RNS silencing szerepe, mechanizmusa a vírus gazda kölcsönhatásban = The role and the mechanism of RNA silencing in the plant virus interplay [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Az RNS silencing, egy géninaktivációs mechanizmus, amely szinte az összes eukarióta szervezetben működik. Kutatásaink során feltártuk a Cymbidium ringspot vírus genomról kéződő small interferáló (si) RNS eredetét nagy hatékonyságú 454 (Life Science) és ...
