Vulnerable Road Users: Characteristics of Pedestrians

open access: yesJournal of Road Safety, 2012
Pedestrians are vulnerable road users and comprise the largest single road user group. Walking is a major form of transport in urban areas and crossing a road is a key element in a journey on foot. A pedestrian network is part of the transport system and

Understanding the Burden of Orofacial Involvement and Patient Treatment Preferences in Systemic Sclerosis: Results From a Large International Survey

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Orofacial manifestations are significantly impactful in patients with systemic sclerosis (SSc) yet remain understudied, with no dedicated clinical guidelines to inform their management. Methods An international online survey comprised38 questions addressing orofacial manifestations of SSc, including patients’ confidence in their treating ...

Road Traffic Fatalities in Malawi: The Role of Pedestrian Behaviour Factors

open access: yesJournal of Road Safety, 2019
Pedestrian behaviour is one of the major contributors to road fatalities. The negative binomial regression model was found to better agree with road fatality data, and this study used this model to assess the influence of pedestrian behaviour factors on ...

A Numerical–Experimental Approach for Multi‐Matrix Fiber‐Reinforced Plastics Characterization Using Finite Element Model Updating

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A numerical–experimental framework is developed for characterizing multi‐matrix fiber‐reinforced polymers (MM‐FRPs) combining epoxy and polyurethane matrices. Harmonic bending tests are integrated with finite element model updating (FEMU) to simultaneously identify elastic and viscoelastic material parameters.

Thermomechanical Fatigue and Creep–Fatigue Interaction of Inconel 718 Additively Manufactured by Laser Beam Powder Bed Fusion

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Thermomechanical fatigue tests of laser beam powder bed fusion (PBF‐LB) Inconel 718 show that the additively manufactured material reaches almost the lifetimes of conventionally‐rolled material under no‐dwell conditions. Introducing dwell times at the maximum temperature markedly reduces the lifetimes due to pronounced grain boundary sliding associated

Combined Process‐ and Phase‐Field‐Simulation to Predict the Microstructure of Single‐Crystal Ni‐Based Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A combined finite element and phase‐field approach predicts the evolution of microstructure during the directional solidification of Ni‐based superalloys. The model reveals how withdrawal rate, temperature gradient, and wall thickness control the dendrite spacing, highlighting the strong effect of surface regions in thin sections where dendrite growth ...

Towards Defect Phase Diagrams: From Research Data Management to Automated Workflows

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
A research data management infrastructure is presented for the systematic integration of heterogeneous experimental and simulation data required for defect phase diagrams. The approach combines openBIS with a companion application for large‐object storage, automated metadata extraction, provenance tracking and federated data access, thereby supporting ...
