Multi-Sensor Orientation Tracking for a Façade-Cleaning Robot

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Glass-façade-cleaning robots are an emerging class of service robots. This kind of cleaning robot is designed to operate on vertical surfaces, for which tracking the position and orientation becomes more challenging.

Updating predictive accident models of modern rural single carriageway A-roads [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Reliable predictive accident models (PAMs) are essential to design and maintain safe road networks and yet the models most commonly used in the UK were derived using data collected 20 to 30 years ago.

ATG4B is required for mTORC1‐mediated anabolic activity and is associated with clinical outcomes in non‐small cell lung cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The relationship between anabolic and catabolic processes governing lung cancer cell growth is nuanced. We show that ATG4B, an autophagy regulator, is elevated in lung cancer and that high ATG4B is associated with worse patient outcomes. Targeting ATG4B in cells reduces growth, protein synthesis, and mTORC1 activity, demonstrating a new relationship ...

Autophagosome marker, LC3, is released extracellularly via several distinct pathways

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
This study establishes a novel HiBiT‐tagging system for ultrasensitive detection of LC3, revealing multiple pathways for its extracellular secretion. It demonstrates that LC3 is released via both autophagy‐dependent and ‐independent mechanisms, including a novel route for nonlipidated LC3‐I.

Theoretical Considerations from the Modelling of the Interaction between Road Design and Fuel Consumption on Urban and Suburban Roadways

open access: yesModelling
A roadway path is most commonly perceived as a 3-D element structure placed within its surrounding environment either within or outside urban areas. Design guidelines are usually strictly followed to ensure safe and comfort transportation of people and ...

Purchase, circulation and fuel taxation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
During the last decade, the UK and many other developed nations have reformed existing forms of road transport taxation to address a number of transport policy goals.

Design comparison of experimental storm water detention systems treating concentrated road runoff [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
The aim was to assess the treatment efficiencies of experimental storm water detention (extended storage) systems based on the Atlantis Water Management Limited detention cells receiving concentrated runoff that has been primary treated by filtration ...

KLK7 overexpression promotes an aggressive phenotype and facilitates peritoneal dissemination in colorectal cancer cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
KLK7, a tissue kallikrein‐related peptidase, is elevated in advanced colorectal cancer and associated with shorter survival. High KLK7 levels in ascites correlate with peritoneal metastasis. In mice, KLK7 overexpression increases metastasis. In vitro, KLK7 enhances cancer cell proliferation, migration, adhesion, and spheroid formation, driving ...

INFLUENCE OF MATERIAL CHARACTERIZATION IN THE DESIGN OF TUNNEL LIGHTING INSTALLATIONS [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The paper describes the influence of the characterisation of reflectance behaviour of tunnel pavements and wall materials on the tunnel lighting design. CIE 189 document suggests considering lambertian behaviour for inter-reflection calculations for road

Pioglitazone plus (−)‐epigallocatechin gallate: a novel approach to enhance osteogenic performance in aged bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Aged human bmMSCs are seeded in the scaffold. Osteoblastic induction can slightly increase cell's bone‐forming activity to produce bone‐like tissues, shown as the sporadic xylenol orange‐stained spots (the lower left image). Notably, pioglitazone plus EGCG co‐treatment dramatically increases cell's bone‐forming activity and bone‐like tissue production (
