A Study to Evaluate the Seismic Response of Road Embankments

open access: yesSoils and Foundations, 2009
ABSTRACT A crucial matter related to roads in seismic areas is to ensure viability during the post-seismic stages, especially if the road represents an important or unique way to reach towns that may be potentially hit by strong earthquakes. Verification of road viability under seismic actions requires not only safety assessment of the failure ...

Analysis of Road Embankment Slope Stability

open access: yesOpen Journal of Civil Engineering, 2018
The stability of earthworks (cuttings, embankments, dikes) and natural slopes is a problem that is of concern to geotechnicians, both practitioners and researchers. The disorders generated by breaking the slopes are usually spectacular, often destructive and sometimes murderers. Many methods of calculating stability have been proposed.

Design of Drainage Downspouts Systems over a Road Embankment

open access: yesWater, 2023
Numerous studies have examined the complex relationship between factors like embankment downspout spacing, height, slope, and rainfall characteristics in the quest to find the best spacing for embankment downspouts. Defining the correct spacing between road drainage elements is of utmost importance in minimizing water flow on roadways.

Evaluating the Design Criteria for Light Embankment Piling: Timber Piles in Road and Railway Foundations

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2021
Three-dimensional finite element (FE) simulations were performed to further develop the Swedish design guidelines for geogrid-reinforced timber pile-supported embankments, also known as lightly piled embankments. Lightly piled embankments are constructed

CYCLIC STRENGTH OF ROAD EMBANKMENT SOILS

open access: yesJournal of Japan Society of Civil Engineers, Ser. A1 (Structural Engineering & Earthquake Engineering (SE/EE)), 2009

Application of a cement–clay–air foam mixture as a lightweight embankment material for construction on soft clay

open access: yesCase Studies in Construction Materials, 2023
Lightweight air foam materials can be used in pavement structures, for example, as embankments and subbase and base layers. Soft clay can be mixed with cement and air foam to generate a lightweight material.

The effects of road embankments on the water environment, with focus on hydrography, zoobenthos and macrophytes – a follow up study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
During the summer of 2020, a study on hydrography, sediment, zoobenthos and vegetation was conducted at three road embankments in the Åland archipelago. The same areas had previously been thoroughly surveyed in 2003 as well as shortly in the sixties and ...

Assessing the Impact of Storm Drains at Road Embankments on Diffuse Particulate Phosphorus Emissions in Agricultural Catchments.

open access: yes, 2019
This study presents a simple mapping key suitable for quick and systematic assessments of the types of agricultural and civil engineering structures present in a certain agricultural catchment as well as the impact they may have on the spatial ...

Use of restoration plantings to enhance bird seed dispersal at the roadside: failures and prospects

open access: yesJournal of Environmental Engineering and Landscape Management, 2015
Plantings are commonly used in roadside reclamation for ornamental purposes and for increasing slope stability and road safety. However, the role of these plantings in restoring ecological processes, such as seed dispersal, has received little attention.
