Geomechanical properties of mixtures of iron ore tailings improved with Portland cement

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Technology, 2019
This study aimed to use iron ore tailings in the construction of road pavements and embankments. To this end, it was investigated the geomechanical properties of mixtures of two iron ore tailings, improved with cement, whose results are important to ...

Exploring the Potential of Unmanned Aerial System‐Based Topographic Indices Maps to Evaluate Storm Drain Positioning

open access: yesJournal of Flood Risk Management, Volume 19, Issue 4, December 2026.
ABSTRACT Urbanisation, climate uncertainty, and limited city budgets have heightened the need for efficient urban drainage management. While advanced hydrodynamic models assess the performance of drainage networks, they are computationally intensive, time‐consuming, and expensive.

Interpreting Non‐Linear Compaction Mechanics of Expansive Soils Using Reliability Calibrated Framework

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 5, October 2026.
This study introduces a reliability‐calibrated machine learning framework to predict the maximum dry density and optimum moisture content of heterogeneous soils. By integrating 15 algorithms with conformal prediction, the models deliver accurate compaction estimates alongside rigorous, distribution‐free 90% confidence intervals.

West European Hedgehog (Erinaceus europaeus) Decline in Great Britain: Evidence From Multiple National‐Scale Surveys

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, Volume 16, Issue 10, October 2026.
We combined and assessed multiple national‐scale monitoring datasets for the West European hedgehog. They suggest a long‐term and concerning abundance decline in agricultural landscapes but apparently stable trends in urban areas. These results have important implications for wider farmland biodiversity in Britain, as well as hedgehog conservation ...

Determination of geomats’ roughness coefficient

open access: yesВестник СибАДИ, 2017
The purpose of the article is to determine the geomats’ roughness coefficients applied to improve the stability of road bed embankments against washing away by surface waters.

Evaluating Testability of Permafrost Models Through Physical and Thermal Testing in Complex Mountain Terrain, Yukon, Canada

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, Volume 37, Issue 4, Page 570-591, October/December 2026.
ABSTRACT Due to its subsurface nature, permafrost cannot be directly observed with the naked eye or optical remote sensing. Consequently, accurately describing its distribution and thermal state is challenging. This is especially true in vast, remote environments, where obtaining comprehensive field data is demanding or improbable.

Analysis of deformations of road embankments founded on displacement columns improving soft subsoil [PDF]

open access: yesArchives of Civil Engineering
Drilled displacement columns, constructed in the form of unreinforced or reinforced concrete elements, are currently a very commonly used method of improving soft subsoil, creating an alternative to more expensive pile foundations.

Internal Structure, Kinematics, and Prehistory of Frozen Debris Lobe‐A (FDL‐A), Brooks Range, Alaska

open access: yesPermafrost and Periglacial Processes, Volume 37, Issue 4, Page 645-667, October/December 2026.
ABSTRACT Frozen Debris Lobe‐A (FDL‐A)—one of hundreds of FDLs in the Brooks Range of northern Alaska—is a slow‐moving landslide in permafrost that has been the subject of research since 2008 due to its close proximity to the Dalton Highway. Here, we synthesize more than a decade's worth of climate and surface measurements of monitored FDLs, and the ...

Restoring Lateral Connectivity to Anthropogenic Riverscapes: Six Lessons From Stage Zero

open access: yesRiver Research and Applications, Volume 42, Issue 8, Page 1799-1817, October 2026.
ABSTRACT Centuries of river modification, particularly straightening and incision, have severely reduced lateral connectivity between rivers and their floodplains. As a result, Stage 0 riverscapes, characterised by high lateral connectivity (e.g., anastomosing or wetland riverscapes), are now rare in anthropogenic landscapes.

Numerical investigation and parametric study of geocell-reinforced embankments under static loading

open access: yesTạp chí Khoa học và Công nghệ
Geocell reinforcement has been increasingly applied in transportation infrastructure to improve the stability and serviceability of road embankments constructed on weak subgrades.
