Microscopic Simulation of Road Traffic

2013
Road traffic concerns all of us since everyone is affected by it. However, our wishes and ideas with respect to road traffic are typically somewhat contradictory: On the one hand, we want as much of it as possible. We want to be mobile and get as quickly and comfortably from the apartment to the university or to work, from the hometown to the vacation ...

Advance Information on the Road: A Simulator Study of the Effect of Road Markings

Human Factors: The Journal of the Human Factors and Ergonomics Society, 1976
Accident statistics and studies of driving behavior have shown repeatedly that curved roads are hazardous. It was hypothesized that the safety of curves could be improved by indicating in advance the course of the road in a more effective way than do traditional road signs.

On the Road with the Simulator

2008
The staff of Jackson Memorial Hospital Patient Safety Center at the University of Miami in Miami Florida, USA, did a road trip. They drove from downtown Miami to Miami Beach (10 minutes, even with traffic). But it was still unforgettable for them. This chapter attempts to draw some lessons out of this journey. Planning is most important.

A distributed simulator for road network control

2010 International Conference on Networking, Sensing and Control (ICNSC), 2010
This paper is about a distributed implementation of a road traffic simulator. The simulator will be used in an integrated, operational system for road traffic monitoring, visualization, prediction and control. The distributed implementation is needed in order to make the simulator scalable (especially with respect to road network size) and to make it ...

Simulating On-the-Road Behavior Using a Driving Simulator

2010 Third International Conference on Advances in Computer-Human Interactions, 2010
In this paper, we summarize the initial results with regard to the question to what extent driving simulators can be used to serve as cheap and easy realizable environments forsimulating on-the-road behavior. The aim of these first studies was to determine whether or not it is possible to replace real driving studies with experiments and furthermore ...

Physiological responses to simulated and on-road driving

International Journal of Psychophysiology, 2011
Driving simulators have become an increasingly popular tool to study and assess drivers. Physiological measurements not only provide an important index of an individual's presence in the virtual environment, but they also permit us to compare simulated and on-road experiences.
