Discontinuities in rock mass

open access: yes, 2019
This chapter discusses the origin of discontinuities and explain how to identify and measure them in the field. It also discusses the effect of discontinuities on the rock mass properties of sandstone, mudstone and andesite at the project site. Joint spacing is defined as the perpendicular distance between the two neighboring joints.

The noncontact determination technique research of dangerously loaded zones in the underground mining [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2019
The electromagnetic radiation signals associated with the destruction of rock samples were studied under field and laboratory conditions. The parameters of the signal were found that preceded the violation of the integrity of the rock in laboratory ...

Progressive failure and friction motion characteristics of contact surface of composite rock mass [PDF]

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2021
The structural planes existing in natural rock mass can control the failure process of rock mass. Based on the progressive response-stability failure process of a single fracture interface, the relationship between progressive response and material ...

Rock mass blastability dependence on rock mass quality.

open access: yesBulletin of the Geological Society of Greece, 2013
The present paper tries to investigate the influence of rock mass quality characteristics on blasting results. In order to come to some conclusions, blastability and quality of rock mass were put together using the already known classification systems. Taking into account the quantity of blastability index (BI) for every possible structural appearance ...
