The synthetic rock mass approach for jointed rock mass modelling

International Journal of Rock Mechanics and Minings Sciences, 2011
Abstract This paper describes synthetic rock mass (SRM) modeling, a new approach for simulating the mechanical behavior of jointed rock mass. This technique uses the bonded particle model for rock to represent intact material and the smooth-joint contact model (SJM) to represent the in situ joint network.

Mass Fainting at Rock Concerts

New England Journal of Medicine, 1995
To the Editor: Mass fainting by members of rock-concert audiences has been a well-recognized phenomenon since the time of Elvis Presley and the Beatles, but it has been neglected in the medical lit...

Directional rock mass rating (DRMR) for anisotropic rock mass characterization

Bulletin of Engineering Geology and the Environment, 2021
Rock mass classification systems are used to categorize and estimate the role of the most significant parameters influencing rock mass behavior to represent an equivalent continuum. Generally, in these methods, the impact of the related parameters is considered uniform in all directions.

Classification of the rock mass structures and determination of rock mass quality

Bulletin of the International Association of Engineering Geology, 1978
The deformation and failure of a rock mass subjected to engineering load are essentially controlled by its internal structure, so that the study of rock mass structures should be considered as a foundation on which to understand its behaviour. Accordingly, in this paper, rock mass structures are classified into 4 types: intact blocky structures ...

Technical Parameters of Rock and Rock Masses

1972
In the introductory lecture of this “Course on rock mechanics”, the fundamental differences between the rock properties and the rock mass properties were mentioned. In this lecture, we shall examine more closely, first of all, those engineering properties of the rock masses which require to be determined in our engineering structures.
