The influence of rock and rock mass properties towards prediction of TBM penetration rates

open access: yes, 2023
The performance of a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is greatly influenced by the rock and rock mass conditions it encounters. Recently, various methods have been developed to incorporate fractured rock mass and strength into Penetration Prediction Model (PPM)s for TBMs.

Interphase Self‐Optimization Enables Stable Magnesium Anode in Hydrogel Electrolyte

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Based on a MgCl2 hydrogel electrolyte, we identify a tridentate chelant additive to construct a magnesium oxychloride interphase on Mg metal anodes. This self‐optimized interphase enables low‐resistance Mg2+ stripping/plating, resulting in much elongated cycling life of 600 h with 0.24 V nucleation overpotential.

Applicability of geomechanical classifications for estimation of strength properties in Brazilian rock masses

open access: yesAnais da Academia Brasileira de Ciências
Many authors have been proposed several correlation equations between geomechanical classifications and strength parameters. However, these correlation equations have been based in rock masses with different characteristics when compared to Brazilian ...

Charge Transfer States in Donor–Acceptor Bulk‐Heterojunctions as Triplet–Triplet Annihilation Sensitizer for Solid‐State Photon Upconversion

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A near‐infrared photosensitizer that facilitates efficient solid‐state photon upconversion by recycling triplets formed within a fullerene‐based donor–acceptor bulk‐heterojunction system is demonstrated. Spectroscopic investigations reveal that the energy of photogenerated charge transfer states of triplet character (3CT) is subsequently transferred to

Enhancing rock mass classification with ground penetrating radar: a novel approach for subsurface discontinuity assessment in geotechnical engineering

open access: yesREM: International Engineering Journal
This article explores the application of ground penetrating radar (GPR) as a novel, cost-effective tool for rock mass classification in geotechnical engineering. Traditional rock mass classification systems, such as the rock quality index (RQD), the rock

Powder‐to‐Film Conversion of Nickel Single‐Atom Catalysts into Binder‐Free and Resistant Electrodes

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
A reproducible strategy is reported for fabricating standalone thin‐film electrodes composed of CNx‐supported Ni single‐atom catalysts. The resulting binder‐free electrodes exhibit robust stability, enhanced charge transfer, and superior electrochemical performance, offering scalable opportunities for applications in electrochemistry. ABSTRACT Although
