Explainable Optimized LSTM Model for Sustainable Wind Power Forecasting in Smart Cities

open access: yesInternational Journal of Intelligent Systems, Volume 2026, Issue 1, 2026.
Accurate wind‐power forecasting is essential for the successful integration of renewable energy into smart city grids. Traditional long short‐term memory (LSTM) networks face significant challenges in parameter optimization, leading to suboptimal forecasting performance.

Comparative Study of Upward Leader Inception During the Initial Stage of Negative and Positive Altitude‐Triggered Lightning

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, Volume 52, Issue 24, 28 December 2025.
Abstract Comparative analysis of positive and negative altitude‐triggered lightning striking a 30‐m tower beneath 35‐m floating wires reveals detailed bidirectional leader processes. It provides the first observational evidence of bidirectional leader behavior in positive altitude‐triggered lightning and highlights the connection process's driving ...

A Personal Voyage Among Earth and Space Physics Disciplines

open access: yesPerspectives of Earth and Space Scientists, Volume 6, Issue 1, December 2025.
Abstract I have organized my thoughts in an autobiographical way in relation to the several distinct phases of my career encompassing Earth and space physics. I discuss atmospheric and space physics topics of interest to me in an international context, and I emphasize the value of community activities and international conferences for the interchange ...

Oxychlorine Species on Mars: A Review

open access: yesReviews of Geophysics, Volume 63, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Oxychlorine species (mainly perchlorate and chlorate) have been identified at multiple locations on the surface of Mars by both orbiter and in situ rovers. They have also been found in martian meteorites. Cl‐isotopes in meteoritic minerals suggest that an oxychlorine cycle has been operating on the martian surface for the last ∼4 billion years.

Study on Transient Overvoltage and Surge Arrester Electrical Stresses in Offshore Wind Farms Under Multiple Lightning Strokes

open access: yesJournal of Marine Science and Engineering
Lightning strikes are a major cause of wind turbine (WT) damage, with approximately 80% of cloud-to-ground lightning strikes exhibiting a multi-stroke characteristic. Therefore, studying the transient overvoltages induced by multiple lightning strokes is

The attachment process of rocket‐triggered lightning dart‐stepped leaders [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Geophysical Research: Atmospheres, 2016
AbstractTime‐correlated 1.54 µs high‐speed video frames, channel‐base current and current derivative (dI/dt), and electric field derivative (dE/dt) measurements are used to analyze the attachment process of triggered lightning dart‐stepped leaders. Lengths, speeds, and durations of the upward‐connecting positive leaders propagating from the launching ...

Fine progression features of return stroke luminosity at the bottom of rocket-triggered lightning channels

open access: yesJournal of Atmospheric Electricity, 2020
We have performed a study on the luminosity waveforms of 13 return strokes (RSs) in 4 rocket triggered lightning flashes recorded by a high-speed optical imaging system LAPOS5 with a time resolution of 35 ns and a spatial resolution of about 2 m.

The communication of volcano information in New Zealand – a narrative review

open access: yesNew Zealand Journal of Geology and Geophysics, Volume 68, Issue 4, Page 591-608, December 2025.
ABSTRACT Communication of volcano information is critical for effective volcanic risk management. A variety of information is communicated to inform decisions and guide actions for planning, preparedness, and response. Such information needs to be reliable, and fit‐for‐purpose across different stages of volcanic activity (quiescence, unrest, short or ...
