Large Scale Testing of Rockfill Materials

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1967
A brief description is made of the rockfill laboratory of the Comision Federal de Electricidad in Mexico. Equipment is available for large-scale (specimens 113 cm in diam) triaxial and compressibility testing of granular materials with maximum particle size up to 20 cm, under lateral pressures up to 25 kg per sq cm.

State-Dependent Constitutive Model for Rockfill Materials

International Journal of Geomechanics, 2015
AbstractA series of large-scale triaxial compression tests on Tacheng rockfill material (TRM) showed that the dilatancy and stress-strain behaviors were significantly influenced by density and pressure. The critical state friction angle of TRM decreased with an increase in the initial confining pressure.

Tests on Cohesionless Materials for Rockfill Dams

Journal of the Soil Mechanics and Foundations Division, 1969
An account is given of the tests carried out at the ISMES laboratories to set up techniques for testing cohesionless rockfill dam materials. A newly devised chamber formed of alternating rigid and deformable rings for confined compression tests is described.

Unmanned rolling compaction system for rockfill materials

Automation in Construction, 2019
Abstract The compaction quality of earth–rock dams is mainly controlled by compaction parameters (the number of compaction passes, compaction trajectory, vibration frequency, lift thickness, and driving speed) during construction. However, relying on the operator to implement control of the compaction parameters can result in unrolled, cross-rolling,

Automatic learning for patterning the behavior of rockfill materials

2015
In order to deal with the ill-posed problem of material parameter identification for rockfill materials, a procedure based on machine learning is proposed. In this investigation the results of a comprehensive set of tests on rockfill materials are examined.

Testing and modeling of the state-dependent behaviors of rockfill material

Computers and Geotechnics, 2014
Abstract Dense Tacheng rockfill material (TRM) exhibits strain softening and dilation during drained triaxial tests, and therefore, an adapted Rowe’s stress–dilatancy equation was proposed for TRM. This equation incorporates an internal state index related to the density and pressure, as well as the coefficient of particle breakage and rotation.
