Rocking Amplification and Vector-Valued Intensity Measures

open access: yes
Rocking motion has many advantages as a seismic isolation technique. However, it is also particularly sensitive to characteristics of the ground excitation.

Dynamic Model for Free-Standing Fuel Racks Under Seismic Excitation Considering Planar and Nonslide Rocking Motion

open access: yes, 2017
A free-standing (FS) rack is a type of a spent nuclear fuel rack, which is just placed on a floor of a pool. For this characteristic, seismic loads can be reduced by fluid force and friction force, but a collision between a rack and another rack or a ...

EphB1‐Mediated Transient Blood‐Brain Barrier Opening Facilitates a Ferritin‐Based Nanotherapeutic for Alzheimer's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
We constructed a brain‐targeted AFn‐DPZ nanodrug delivery system and identified EphB1 as its receptor on the blood‐brain barrier (BBB). This system facilitates drug transport across the BBB and thereby ameliorates cognitive impairment in Alzheimer's disease.

Spatially Organized Human Ovarian Spheroids Instruct Endometrial Morphogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A spatially organized human follicle‐like spheroid (SPHEGaT) composed of granulosa cells (GCs) and stromal‐derived theca‐like cells (TLCs) establishes sustained steroidogenesis in vitro. When co‐cultured with human endometrial organoids (EMOs), estradiol (E2) and progesterone (P4) exchange induces secretory/progesterone‐responsive differentiation ...

Breaking the Durability–Power Trade‐Off: Boron‐Directed Faceted O3 Cathodes for High‐Rate Sodium‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
Boron‐oxide‐assisted particle engineering stabilizes O3‐type layered cathodes for sodium‐ion batteries by mitigating phase transitions and lattice strain. Acting as flux and structural modifier, boron forms submicron hexagonal platelets with (003) facets and expanded Na‐layer spacing, enabling rapid Na⁺ diffusion and mechanical resilience.

A finite element model for seismic response analysis of deformable rocking frames

open access: yes, 2017
A new finite element model to analyze the seismic response of deformable rocking bodies and rocking structures is presented. The model comprises a set of beam elements to represent the rocking body and zero-length fiber cross-section elements at the ends

Comparative Insights and Overlooked Factors of Interphase Chemistry in Alkali Metal‐Ion Batteries

open access: yesAdvanced Energy Materials, EarlyView.
This review presents a comparative analysis of Li‐, Na‐, and K‐ion batteries, focusing on the critical role of electrode–electrolyte interphases. It especially highlights overlooked aspects such as SEI/CEI misconceptions, binder effects, and self‐discharge relevance, emphasizing the limitations of current understanding and offering strategies for ...

A simplified equation of motion for free rocking rigid blocks

open access: yes, 2016
In this paper a novel formulation for the free rocking motion of slender rigid blocks is proposed and compared with the classical theory. In particular, it is assumed that the free motion between two subsequent impacts can be represented as a uniformly ...
