Rocking or rolling--perception of ambiguous motion after returning from space. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2014
The central nervous system must resolve the ambiguity of inertial motion sensory cues in order to derive an accurate representation of spatial orientation. Adaptive changes during spaceflight in how the brain integrates vestibular cues with other sensory

Mechanisms of Degradation in Li‐Ion Batteries Under Low Temperature Exposures

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Low‐temperature exposures, or freeze‐thaw cycles, are observed to significantly accelerate the degradation of Li‐ion batteries. A combination of electrolyte phase separation and mechanochemical stress leads to reversible and irreversible performance losses.

Research on Collision Restitution Coefficient Based on the Kinetic Energy Distribution Model of the Rocking Rigid Body within the System of Mass Points

open access: yesBuildings
Rocking structures exhibit significant collapse resistance during earthquakes. In studies of rocking rigid bodies, the collision restitution coefficient is typically determined based on the classical model of the rocking rigid bodies. However, during the

Novel Special Orthogonal Group Optimization for Coarse Alignment Method of SINS on a Rocking Base

open access: yesInternational Journal of Aerospace Engineering, 2022
In order to solve the coarse alignment problem of the strapdown inertial navigation system on a rocking base, a fast coarse alignment method using the Special Orthogonal Group optimization has been proposed in this paper.

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...

Patient‐Derived 3D Heart‐On‐a‐Chip Model of Dilated Cardiomyopathy With Embedded Bead‐Based Mapping of Tissue Contractility

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A heart‐on‐a‐chip model of dilated cardiomyopathy is developed from patient‐derived induced pluripotent stem cells. The model recapitulates key disease phenotypes and enables functional assessment through integrated bead‐based tracking and pillar deflection measurements.

Physics-informed artificial intelligence models for the seismic response prediction of rocking structures

open access: yesData-Centric Engineering
The seismic response of a wide variety of structures, from small but irreplaceable museum exhibits to large bridge systems, is characterized by rocking. In addition, rocking motion is increasingly being used as a seismic protective strategy to limit the ...

Mechanotransduction of Magnetically Applied Forces Leads to Mechanical Stiffening of Platelet‐Rich Plugs

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A microfluidic device with magnetic microposts was used to assess platelet mechanobiology. The oscillatory actuation of posts with embedded iron particles was dampened by the dynamic stiffening of the platelet‐rich plugs. This stiffening process increased with applied load, but inhibiting platelet activation (ASA) or myosin contractility (blebbistatin)

Study of Isolation Effectiveness of Nuclear Reactor Building with Three-dimensional Seismic Base Isolation

open access: yesYuanzineng kexue jishu, 2023
In recent years, three-dimensional (3D) seismic base isolation system has been studied extensively. In order to study the application of 3D seismic base isolation in nuclear power plants (NPPs), the new 3D combined isolation bearing (3D-CIB) composed of ...
