The Motion of Rapidly Rotating Curling Rocks [PDF]
We present a physical model that accounts for the motion of rapidly rotating curling rocks. By rapidly rotating we mean that the rotational speed of the contact annulus of the rock about the centre of mass is large compared with the translational speed of the centre of mass.

Motion of rock masses on slopes
This paper shows the different ways of how rock masses (stones, rocks, and blocks) move along slopes and for each different way of motion (free fall, bouncing, rolling, sliding, slowing down, lubrication, fluidization)adequatedynamicequationsaregiven.Knowingthe kinematics and dynamics of travelling rock masses is necessary for mathematical modeling of ...

Effect of Interaction and Rocking Motion on The Earthquake Response of Buildings [PDF]
Usually structures are designed under codes based on the assumption that the soil stiffness is infinite, so the foundation rests firmly on the soil. In many cases, the overturning moment due to the lateral forces may exceed the resisting moment due to ...

Inelastic displacement ratio for rocking buildings subjected to far-field and near-field pulse-like ground motions [PDF]
Self centering rocking buildings are capable of reducing permanent damage and concentrating damage to replaceable energy dissipation devices. This paper aims to calculate inelastic displacement ratio for self centering rocking buildings under far field ...

Development of retention plate which holds spent fuel cask
A method to retain a cask by a retention plate has been developed. In this method, a small fitting gap between the bottom of the cask and the circular hollow of the retention plate controls movement of the cask in the range of the circular hollow area at
