Enhancing the Seismic Resilience of Steel Moment Resisting Frame with a New Precast Self-Centering Rocking Shear Wall System

open access: yesBuildings, 2022
In this paper, a new precast self-centering rocking shear wall system (PSCRSW) mainly composed of precast reinforced concrete (RC) wall, V-shaped steel brace and pre-pressed disc spring friction damper (PDSFD) are proposed to enhance the seismic ...

Seismic Response of an Elastic Oscillator Coupled with a Rocking Wall

open access: yes, 2017
This paper studies the dynamics of an elastic single degree of freedom oscillator (representing an elastic frame) coupled with a rocking wall. Two types of rocking walls namely stepping rocking wall and pinned rocking wall are presented and analyzed. For

Masonry Walls Retrofitted with Vertical FRP Rebars

open access: yesBuildings, 2020
The out-of-plane behaviour of the walls as a consequence of an earthquake is the main vulnerability of existing masonry structures. In the case of rigid in compression not tensile resistant material, incremental dynamic analyses may be employed to ...

Dynamic Stiffness and Damping of Rigid Retaining Wall under Seismic Loading

open access: yesTikrit Journal of Engineering Sciences
Dynamic stiffness and damping of the soil under the base of the foundation of the retaining wall and the backfill soil behind it play the main role in estimating vibrating displacement during seismic loading.

Giant Magnetic Coercivity Driven by Spin‐Bag Ferromagnetism in Epitaxial Sr3YCo4O10+δ Films with Engineered 2D Oxygen Vacancy Ordering

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A giant magnetic coercivity and a vertical shift of hysteresis loops are demonstrated in Sr3YCo4O10+δ epitaxial films. The hard magnetic behavior originates from ferromagnetic spin bags stabilized within a long‐range ordered oxygen‐vacancy structure.

Cellular Responses to Mechanical Cues Across Scales: From Fundamental Insights to Translational Potential

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This review examines how cellular behavior is regulated by mechanical cues transmitted through soft biomaterials, from single‐cell mechanosensing to tissue‐level adaptation. It highlights why physiological relevance, rather than model complexity alone, is critical for translational mechanobiology and introduces a scoring framework linking material ...
