Capreolus capreolus (Roe deer)
1968Skin biopsies of these animals (l♂,l♀) were made available by Dr. H. Heck, Catskill Game Farm, Catskill, New York, USA. Pairing of autosomes is arbitrary with the exception of the largest pair whose long arms usually bear minute satellites.

Movement responses of roe deer to hunting risk
Journal of Wildlife Management, 2018Large herbivores respond to fluctuations in predation and hunting risk. The temporal scale of risk heterogeneity affects behavioral responses and determines the usefulness of metrics to quantify them.We present a conceptual framework to link anti ...

Intolerance amongst deer species at feeding: Roe deer are uneasy banqueters
Behavioural Processes, 2008The function of inter-specific interactions in large herbivore assemblies is under debate. We have studied inter-specific interactions between roe and fallow deer on pastures, to assess whether competition between these Cervidae occurs through behavioural interference. Roe were displaced by fallow deer (i.e.

There appear to be no roe deer at present in any American zoological park, a situation due largely to the stringent federal regulations pertaining to the introduction of ungulate stock. Around the turn of the century there were reports of roe deer, Capreolus capreolus , released by sportsmen on certain ranches in this country, but these introductions ...

Predation on Roe Deer in Sweden
The Journal of Wildlife Management, 1962In Sweden, hunters and game biologists have discussed for a long time whether or not the big predatory animals should be tolerated. The brown bear (Ursus arctos), wolf (Canis lupus), lynx (Lynx lynx), wolverine (Gulo gulo), and perhaps even some predatory birds such as the eagles, particularly the golden eagle (Aquila chrysaoEtos), are considered big ...

Contexts and possible functions of barking in roe deer
Animal Behaviour, 1999We studied the barking behaviour of free-ranging roe deer, Capreolus capreolus, in response to disturbance provoked by a human observer and in response to the playback of recorded barks. Three alternative functions of this behaviour were hypothesized: barking is an alarm call, a pursuit-deterrent call or a territorial call.
