The role of atrial natriuretic peptide to attenuate inflammation in a mouse skin wound and individually perfused rat mesenteric microvessels. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
We tested the hypothesis that the anti-inflammatory actions of atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) result from the modulation of leukocyte adhesion to inflamed endothelium and not solely ANP ligation of endothelial receptors to stabilize endothelial barrier

Differential Effects of PDE4 Inhibitors on Cortical Neurons and T-Lymphocytes

open access: yesJournal of Pharmacological Sciences, 2008
Inhibitors of PDE4 (cAMP-specific phosphodiesterase) induce side effects, including nausea and emesis, that limit their therapeutic potential. We investigated the function of two catalytically active conformations of PDE4 (a low-affinity conformer ...

Inhibition of Phosphodiesterase-4 (PDE4) activity triggers luminal apoptosis and AKT dephosphorylation in a 3-D colonic-crypt model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
BACKGROUND: We previously established a three-dimensional (3-D) colonic crypt model using HKe3 cells which are human colorectal cancer (CRC) HCT116 cells with a disruption in oncogenic KRAS, and revealed the crucial roles of oncogenic KRAS both in ...

Protective Effect of Administered Rolipram against Radiation-Induced Testicular Injury in Mice

open access: yesThe World Journal of Men's Health, 2015
Purpose Pelvic irradiation for the treatment of cancer can affect normal cells, such as the rapidly proliferating spermatogenic cells of the testis, leading to infertility, a common post-irradiation problem.

Journey through the spectacular landscape of melanocortin 1 receptor

open access: yesPigment Cell &Melanoma Research, Volume 37, Issue 5, Page 667-680, September 2024.
Epidermal keratinocytes synthesize and secrete α‐melanocyte stimulating hormone (α‐MSH) and adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH). These act as agonists of the melanocortin 1 receptor expressed on the cell surface of human melanocytes. Binding of these physiological agonists or synthetic α‐MSH analogs to human MC1R activates the cAMP pathway, leading to ...

Inhibition of phosphodiesterase 4 reduces ethanol intake and preference in C57BL/6J mice

open access: yesFrontiers in Neuroscience, 2014
Some anti-inflammatory medications reduce alcohol consumption in rodent models. Inhibition of phosphodiesterases (PDE) increases cAMP and reduces inflammatory signaling.

The protein kinase C inhibitor, Ro-31-7459, is a potent activator of ERK and JNK MAP kinases in HUVECs and yet inhibits cyclic AMP-stimulated SOCS-3 gene induction through inactivation of the transcription factor c-Jun [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Induction of the suppressor of cytokine signalling 3 (SOCS-3) gene is vital to the normal control of inflammatory signalling. In order to understand these processes we investigated the role of the proto-oncogene component of the AP-1 transcription factor

Depressive symptom as a risk factor for cirrhosis in patients with primary biliary cholangitis: Analysis based on Lasso‐logistic regression and decision tree models

open access: yesBrain and Behavior, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2024.
This study demonstrated a high rate of depressive symptoms in patients with PBC. HAMD‐17 score was negatively associated with C4 levels and positively associated with levels of ALP, GGT, TB, IgG, and IgM. Elevated HAMD‐17 score was a discriminating factor for high risk of cirrhosis in Lasso‐logistic regression and decision tree models.

Nausea: Current knowledge of mechanisms, measurement and clinical impact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Nausea is a subjective sensation, which often acts as a signal that emesis is imminent. It is a widespread problem that occurs as a clinical sign of disease or as an adverse effect of a drug therapy or surgical procedure.

Nicotine Impairs Smooth Muscle cAMP Signaling and Vascular Reactivity

open access: yesMicrocirculation, Volume 31, Issue 6, August 2024.
ABSTRACT Objective This study aimed to determine nicotine's impact on receptor‐mediated cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) synthesis in vascular smooth muscle (VSM). We hypothesize that nicotine impairs β adrenergic–mediated cAMP signaling in VSM, leading to altered vascular reactivity.
