ESTIMATION OF VEHICLE ROLL ANGLE
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2005Abstract Vehicle roll angle is one of the most important values for lateral vehicle dynamics. Electronic lateral dynamic control system operates only as desired during all driving maneuvers on all road surfaces, if the vehicle roll angle is known. Due to economical reasons, the vehicle roll angle is not measurable in series-produced vehicles.

Estimation of vehicle roll and road bank angle
Proceedings of the 2004 American Control Conference, 2004This work presents a new method for identifying road bank and vehicle roll separately using a disturbance observer and a vehicle dynamic model. The authors have previously shown that vehicle states and parameters of a vehicle model can be precisely estimated using measurements from Global Positioning System (GPS) and Inertial Navigation System (INS ...

Vehicle Roll and Road Bank Angles Estimation
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2008Driving safety can be enhanced by better understanding of risk situation, which can be achieved by the knowledge of vehicle dynamic states as well as the road geometry. Among the parameters of the road that have an influence on vehicle dynamics, one can find the bank angle, which can not however be measured by low cost onboard sensors. In this paper, a

ROLL ANGLE ESTIMATION FOR SMART MUNITIONS
IFAC Proceedings Volumes, 2007Abstract The roll angle is estimated only using the pitch and yaw rates for a gun-launched smart munition with fast rolling of 1~2 Hz. An extended Kalman filter is designed based on the roll, pitch, and yaw dynamics and two MEMS gyroscopes measuring pitch and yaw rates. It is simulated under a realistic condition with low-grade gyroscopes.

Implementation of Stereo Rig Roll Angle Estimation on a TMS320C6678 DSP
2020 9th Mediterranean Conference on Embedded Computing (MECO), 2020Ego roll angle estimation is an important task for self-driving cars. In recent years, a series of computer stereo vision-based roll angle estimation algorithms are proposed. This paper presents the implementation of the most state-of-the-art stereo rig roll angle estimation algorithm on TMS320C6678 DSP, a state-of-the-art SoC digital signal processor.

Vehicle Side Slip and Roll Angle Estimation
SAE Technical Paper Series, 2016<div class="section abstract"><div class="htmlview paragraph">Vehicle dynamics estimation has been the subject of study for some years now. If on-board vehicle control systems can be provided with information such as side slip angle, lateral force etc. then stability of the vehicle can be improved.

Estimation of land vehicle roll and pitch angles
Vehicle System Dynamics, 2007In this article, two kinematics-based observers are proposed to estimate the vehicle roll and pitch angles by using an inertial measurement unit. The observers are mathematically proven to be stable if the vehicle yaw rate is not zero. With a design variation of the observer gains, the estimated roll or pitch angle is shown to further asymptotically ...

Finite-Memory Estimation for Vehicle Roll and Road Bank Angles
IEEE Transactions on Industrial Electronics, 2019This paper proposes a novel finite-memory (FM) estimation method for vehicle roll and road bank angles. We consider a three-degree-of-freedom model based on bicycle and vehicle roll models, where there exist uncertainties in the model parameters. The existing estimation methods may show poor performance for the considered model with uncertainties.

Estimation of Vehicle Sideslip Angle with Adaptation to Road Bank Angle and Roll Angle
2014The road bank angle and roll angle have direct influence on the vehicle’s lateral motion. As a result, the accuracy of sideslip angle estimation can be improved through estimation of road bank angle and roll angle. In this paper, estimation of vehicle sideslip angle with adaptation to road bank angle and roll angle is achieved through a proposed Kalman

Evaluation of the estimation accuracy of polarization-based roll angle measurement
Applied Optics, 2013The orientation of remote objects can be easily measured optically and very accurately using optical technologies. In this paper, we address the accuracy of a roll angle estimation technique that is based on the estimation of the polarization of a retroreflected beam and is applied in a long-range measurement task.
