Evaluating Roll Damping in Parametric Rolling: Challenges and Approaches
The prediction of parametric rolling in ships remains a critical area of research due to the significant impact on maritime safety and vessel performance. Among the various parameters influencing parametric rolling, roll damping is notoriously challenging to assess due to its nonlinear nature.Turk, Anton +3 more

Roll Damping For Small Fishing Vessels
SNAME 22nd American Towing Tank Conference, 1989The successes of Naval Architects in predicting ship motions in waves, have been mainly confined to motions other than roll. For roll motions it has long been recognized that roll damping for wave encounter frequencies near the natural roll frequency is not only an extremely significant parameter but also very difficult to predict accurately.

Numerical Simulation of Roll Damping of a FPSO
Volume 3: Pipeline and Riser Technology; CFD and VIV, 2007The viscous flow problem of roll damping of a FPSO is investigated by means of numerical solution of the unsteady two-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. The finite volume method using unstructured grid is used to solve the integral form of the governing equations.

Nonlinear Models of Ship Roll Damping
International Shipbuilding Progress, 1988The paper looks at various forms for the roll damping moment of ships and introduces two techniques to identify the parameters of the various models together with a methodology for their evaluation. The emphasis in the paper is on the possibility of using complete portions of roll decay curvf1s rather than decrement curves derived from the peak values ...

Roll-damping qualities of constructive stabilizers
International Shipbuilding Progress, 2008The paper presents the description and results of a model experiment carried out for comparison of the roll-damping qualities of continuous bilge keels and of wing ledges, installed in a staggered order, during rolling of the ship at zero forward speed. The damping qualities of constructive stabilizers were investigated also at motion

A Note on the Form of Ship Roll Damping
Journal of Ship Research, 1978The objective of the present work was to develop an approximation to the conventional mixed linear-plusquadraticship roll damping model so that analytical obstacles could be overcome in the application of the functional series expansion to nonlinear ship rolling. A mixed linear-plus-cubic approximation was found to be reasonable for this purpose.

The Damping Capacity of Damping Devices during Rotor-over-Stator Rolling
Thermal Engineering, 2019The article presents results of investigating the influence of elastic damping devices that secure the rotor and the stator under high-amplitude oscillations under unfavorable development of an accident, e.g., upon rubbing of the rotor against the stator.

The Effect of Shallow Water on Roll Damping and Rolling Period
2016Significant effort has been made to quantify and predict roll damping of vessels in the past. Similarly, efforts have been made to provide effective methods for calculating the roll gyradius of vessels. Both the damping and the gyradius of a vessel are traditionally quantified through the use of a sally test.
