Application of wavelet transforms to the decoupling of free-roll decay data

Ocean Engineering, 2003
This study presents the results of the decoupling of a free-roll decay test by wavelet transforms. A free-roll decay test was performed to determine the coefficients of damping terms in equations of motion. No motion of the model was restricted during the experiment. A slight yaw motion was found while the model was in the free-roll decay motion.

Experimental and Numerical Analysis of the Roll Decay Motion for a Patrol Boat

2009
The analysis of the roll motion of a ship is of practical interest for both safety and comfort reasons. In this paper an experimental and numerical analysis of the roll decay for a patrol boat of the Italian Navy is carried out. Full scale trials in the Mediterranean sea in cooperation with NSWCCD (Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division) and ...

Expected Time Value Decay of Options: Implications for Put‐Rolling Strategies

Financial Review, 2008
AbstractAssuming the underlying asset price remains constant, previous studies show that the time value of an option decays gradually at a rate that accelerates over time and peaks at the expiration date. Thus, a significant portion of time value is lost in the four weeks leading up to expiration.

Analysis of Roll Decay for Surface-Ship Model Experiments With Uncertainty Estimates

Journal of Verification, Validation and Uncertainty Quantification, 2023
Abstract Roll decay of David Taylor model basin (DTMB) Model 5720, a 23rd-scale free-running model of the research vessel (R/V) Melville, is evaluated with uncertainty estimates. Experimental roll-decay time series was accurately modeled as an exponentially decaying cosine function, which is the solution of a second-order ordinary ...

100-Year Analysis of Roll Decay for Surface-Ship Models

Journal of Verification, Validation and Uncertainty Quantification
Abstract A history is described on roll decay analysis for experiments with surface-ship scale models at the Naval Warfare Center Carderock Division (NSWCCD), a naval hydrodynamic facility known as David Taylor Model Basin (DTMB). The earliest roll decay analysis for a model test is from a report in 1923 that compares roll decay analysis

Simulating lubrication decay in rolling element bearings and its impact on wear

2022
Lubrication in rolling element bearings is a key aspect of maintaining healthy mechanical systems, minimising operational costs and optimising performance. In some industrial applications wear in these bearings poses a significant maintenance cost and their failure, a risk to safe operation.

Identification of two roll resonant periods of ship motion coupling with liquid sloshing inside

The Physics of Fluids
Existing studies showed that the roll motion response of ships fitted with sloshing tanks is typically characterized by two peaks and a trough over a range of incident wave frequencies.

Seakeeping and roll-decay tests on cargo ship model C.2630

2023
This report presents the results of seakeeping and roll-decay tests performed on the Cargo Ship model, named C.2630 according to the CNR-INM code, conducted in the seakeeping tank "E. Castagneto" of CNR-INM. The tests were carried out in the framework of the research project GATERS - GATE Rudder System as a Retrofit for the Next Generation Propulsion ...

SPIV measurements around a frigate model in free decay roll motion

2004
An experimental analysis of 3D velocity field evolution of a ship model in afree rolling motion has been carried out at the INSEAN towing tank. Measurement has been performing by using stereo PIV technique (SPIV) acquiring the evolution of the velovity field during the damped rolling motion of the ship.

Estimation of Nonlinear Ship Roll Damping from Free-Decay Data

Journal of Ship Research, 1985
A common method of assessing the damping present in ship rolling motion is to perform a free-decay experiment, in which, in the absence of waves, the ship is given an initial roll amplitude and then released. By processing the resulting decaying, oscillatory trace it is possible to estimate quantitatively the degree of damping, even when this is ...
