Slipping friction of an optically and magnetically manipulated microsphere rolling at a glass-water interface

open access: yes, 2008
The motion of submerged magnetic microspheres rolling at a glass-water interface has been studied using magnetic rotation and optical tweezers combined with bright-field microscopy particle tracking techniques.

Machine learning interphase precipitation behavior of Ti micro-alloyed steel guided by physical metallurgy principle

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2023
Nano-sized interphase precipitates, which form in ordered rows, are critical for high strength low alloy (HSLA) steels, in achieving the desired strength needed for downgauging for light-weighting automotive structures.

A coupled finite-volume CFD solver for two-dimensional elasto-hydrodynamic lubrication problems with particular application to rolling element bearings [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
This paper describes a new computational fluid dynamics methodology for modelling elastohydrodynamic contacts. A finite-volume technique is implemented in the ‘OpenFOAM’ package to solve the Navier-Stokes equations and resolve all gradients in a ...

Intraoperative Collection of Ascitic Fluid With Intra‐ or Postoperative Reinfusion in Ovarian Cancer: Safety and Feasibility of a Roller Pumping Method

open access: yesTherapeutic Apheresis and Dialysis, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Introduction Patients with ovarian cancer often present with massive ascites, leading to significant protein loss during surgical procedures. Although cell‐free concentrated ascites reinfusion therapy (CART) is used in palliative settings to mitigate protein loss, its application in intraoperative settings remains unexplored.

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Eliminating surface transverse cracks in the novel vertical bending continuous casting of pure aluminum 1070 thin slabs

open access: yesScientific Reports
To achieve high-efficiency continuous production of aluminum, vertical bending continuous casting equipment has been designed. However, the formation of surface transverse cracks during casting presents a significant challenge, particularly when ...

Comparison of 4-ball and 5-ball rolling contact fatigue tests on lubricated Si3N4/steel contact [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Accelerated four-ball and five-ball rolling tests were performed on HIPed Si3N4 ball samples (rough lapped with surface roughness value Ra0.08 μm and Rq0.118 μm) in fully lubricated condition.

Linking neurogenesis, oligodendrogenesis, and myelination defects to neurodevelopmental disruption in primary mitochondrial disorders

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mitochondrial remodeling shapes neural and glial lineage progression by matching metabolic supply with demand. Elevated OXPHOS supports differentiation and myelin formation, while myelin compaction lowers mitochondrial dependence, revealing mitochondria as key drivers of developmental energy adaptation.
