Rolling friction of adhesive microspheres [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Physics D: Applied Physics, 2014
The rolling friction of adhesive microspheres is an important quantity as it determines the strength and stability of larger aggregates. Current models predict rolling forces that are 1 to 2 orders of magnitude smaller than observed experimentally. Starting from the well-known Johnson-Kendall-Roberts (JKR) contact description, we derive an analytical ...

Using the fractional interaction law to model the impact dynamics in arbitrary form of multiparticle collisions

open access: yes, 2004
Using the molecular dynamics method, we examine a discrete deterministic model for the motion of spherical particles in three-dimensional space. The model takes into account multiparticle collisions in arbitrary forms.

Contact Pressure Measurement System in Cross Wedge Rolling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
In the cross wedge rolling process (CWR), plastic deformation is geared by a driving torque transmitted by friction on die surface. Friction plays a role which has to be further identified in this metal forming process. The local contact pressure between

A Soft Microrobot for Single‐Cell Transport, Spheroid Assembly, and Dual‐Mode Drug Screening

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A soft, untethered hydrogel microrobot enables precise single‐cell delivery, self‐assembly into 3D spheroids, and real‐time thermal actuation. Driven by light‐induced convection and embedded with gold nanorods and temperature sensors, the microrobot guides cells, modulates local microenvironments, and supports drug testing.

Finite element analysis on rolling contact fatigue of surface nanostructured steel (Effect of friction coefficient on mean shear stress under cyclic loading)

open access: yesNihon Kikai Gakkai ronbunshu, 2020
This study provides a theoretical investigation on shear stress distribution inside a steel roller with a nanostructured surface, manufactured by the severe plastic deformation and induction heating processes, under a rolling contact fatigue testing ...

Slowing-Down in the Radiator and Cherenkov Radiation Angular Distributions from Relativistic Heavy Ions at FAIR, SPS and LHC energies [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
An adaptive learning algorithm using laser velocity meter is proposed for the process control of tandem cold mills. This method is used for on-line adaptive learning calculation of deformation resistance of strip and rolling friction models.

Liquid Metal Microrobots for Magnetically Guided Transvascular Navigation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid metal‐based microrobots combine magnetic steering, intrinsic X‐ray visibility and softness, to navigate blood vessels even against flow. Under clinically relevant magnetic fields, liquid metal microrobots roll along vessel walls, cross endothelial barriers, and accumulate in target tissues.

Rolling friction and bistability of rolling motion

open access: yes, 2005
The rolling motion of a rigid cylinder on an inclined flat viscous surface is investigated and the nonlinear resistance force against rolling, $F_R(v)$, is derived. For small velocities $F_R(v)$ increases with velocity due to increasing deformation rate of the surface material.

Deployable 3D‐Printed Vascular Stent with Surface‐Catalysed Endogenous Nitric Oxide Generation

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A deployable 3D‐printed vascular stent was fabricated with surface‐catalyzed endogenous nitric oxide generation, representing a promising new direction for stent development. The stent can be remotely controlled by magnetic force in its compressed state and fully deployed at the target site using an untethered heat source, potentially eliminating the ...

Anti‐Slip Material‐Based Strategies and Approaches

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This review highlights the principle mechanisms of slipping at the microscale, linking contact mechanics with a friction behavior model for surface interfaces. Main strategies to develop anti‐slip properties to the surfaces are discussed alongside standardized testing approaches.
