Trait coevolution and causal inference using generalized dynamic phylogenetic models

open access: yesMethods in Ecology and Evolution, EarlyView.
Abstract Phylogenetic comparative methods are widely used to study trait coevolution across biological and cultural domains. The most common methods are phylogenetic generalized linear (mixed) models, phylogenetic path analysis, Pagel's ‘discrete’ method and Ornstein–Uhlenbeck models. While some frameworks like generalized linear mixed models are quite

Prognostic robustness of serum creatinine based AKI definitions in patients with sepsis: a prospective cohort study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Background: It is unclear how modifications in the way to calculate serum creatinine (sCr) increase and in the cut-off value applied, influences the prognostic value of Acute Kidney Injury (AKI).

Probable causal link between epilepsy and sleep apnea: case report Provável associação entre epilepsia e apnéia do sono: relato de caso

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 2007
Patients with epilepsy were reported to have concomitant sleep apnea, but it has been rarely linked to the epilepsy itself. We present a case of a 28-year-old, obese man with secondary medically resistant partial complex epilepsy due to a brain trauma ...

Successful use of haemoperfusion therapy in an adult horse with hepatic encephalopathy and cholangiohepatitis

open access: yesEquine Veterinary Education, EarlyView.
Summary A 4‐year‐old, 520 kg, American Quarter Horse broodmare, approximately 90 days in foal, was presented to Texas A&M University Teaching Hospital for suspected liver disease. Based on clinicopathological values and hepatic abnormalities noted ultrasonographically, the mare was presumptively diagnosed with cholangiohepatitis.
