Postcranial anatomy of the Miocene hippopotamoids of Toros‐Menalla, Chad

open access: yesJournal of Anatomy, EarlyView.
We establish a framework for the identification of postcranial remains in hippopotamoids by describing and comparing for the first time two late Miocene hippopotamoids from Toros‐Menalla, Chad (Hexaprotodon garyam, an early hippopotamid, and Libycosaurus bahri, the last African anthracothere) with the common hippopotamus.

Entangled Foodways and Livelihood Pathways: Cinnamon, State Interventions, and Everyday Life in Hmong Communities of Northern Vietnam

open access: yesJournal of Agrarian Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The agroecological practices of ethnic minority farmers in Vietnam's northern uplands are being reshaped by intersecting pressures of land‐use reform, market integration, and state‐backed crop promotion. Among Hmong communities in the south of Lào Cai Province (former Yên Bái Province) cinnamon was once valued primarily for its medicinal ...

That sinkin’ feeling: Environmentally induced distress on a disappearing island

open access: yesMedical Anthropology Quarterly, EarlyView.
Abstract Residents of Tangier Island, Virginia, a subsiding island in the Chesapeake Bay, embody psychosocial dimensions of environmental change. Analysis of ethnographic data shows islanders’ experiences and articulations of anxiety, panic, and despair as “that sinkin’ feeling,” resulting from the stress of living with the long‐term threat of imminent

Principle and practice of hydraulic softening top-cutting and pressure relief technology in weakly cemented strata

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
Extremely thick and hard roofs are difficult to break in the mining of a working face, and the large area of the suspended roof easily induces a strong ground pressure or dynamic impact disasters.

AI Public Value Creation: Data Encoding, Aggregation, and Algorithmic Computation

open access: yesPublic Administration, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT AI systems in public administration challenge the premise that value creation arises from managers' strategic mediation among the vertices of Moore's strategic triangle: Public value, legitimacy, and operational capacity. AI imposes new logics that reshape vertices and their interaction dynamics.

Deep-hole blasting roof cutting technology for pressure relief in the final mining phase of the working face: a case study

open access: yesFrontiers in Earth Science
In the final mining phase of the working face, a large area of suspended roof can lead to stress concentration from mining-induced stress, which in turn causes deformation and instability of the main roadway. This study takes the Ji-17-21080 working face

Livelihood Heterogeneity and Adoption of Combine Harvesters Under Flood Risk: Evidence From the Wetland Areas of Bangladesh

open access: yesClimate Resilience and Sustainability, Volume 5, Issue 2, December 2026.
Livelihood heterogeneity explains uneven combine harvester adoption in haor wetlands. PCA–cluster analysis identifies four farmer typologies shaping mechanization pathways. Adoption is highest among educated and networked land‐rich farmers, lowest among traditionalists.

Framing Displacement, Forcing Perspective: Black Visual Geographies and the Crisis of Homelessness in Oakland

open access: yesAntipode, Volume 58, Issue 5, September 2026.
ABSTRACT While Black and visual geographies have examined the image's racial and spatial power, more work is needed to analyze how racial frames of view become spatially embedded. This paper advances such a practice by analyzing news images of homelessness in Oakland.

The technology of gob-side entry retaining supported by flexible formwork wall with roof cutting and pressure relief for composite roof in deep mine

open access: yesGong-kuang zidonghua, 2021
In Lianghuai area of China, due to the influence of the large buried depth of the mine and the complicated roof conditions, when gob-side entry is retained, the roof deformation of the gob-side entry retaining is large, the coal side is easily extruded and the floor heave is serious.
