Is room-temperature superconductivity with phonons possible?

open access: yes, 2006
By recognizing the vital importance of two-hole Cooper pairs (CPs) in addition to the usual two-electron ones in a strongly-interacting many-electron system, the concept of CPs was re-examined with striking conclusions.

Function‐driven design of a surrogate interleukin‐2 receptor ligand

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Interleukin (IL)‐2 signaling can be achieved and precisely fine‐tuned through the affinity, distance, and orientation of the heterodimeric receptors with their ligands. We designed a biased IL‐2 surrogate ligand that selectively promotes effector T and natural killer cell activation and differentiation. Interleukin (IL) receptors play a pivotal role in

High sensitivity HgTe room temperature terahertz photodetector

open access: yesAPL Photonics, 2023
The advent of topological semi-metals with peculiar band structure and exotic quantum-transport provides novel pathways for upgrading the performance of terahertz (THz) detection.

Hydroxyapatite-Barium Titanate Biocoatings Using Room Temperature Coblasting

open access: yesCrystals, 2023
The use of orthopaedic and dental implants is expanding as a consequence of an ageing population and also due to illness or trauma in younger age groups.

Terahertz Room-Temperature Photonic Crystal Nanocavity Laser

open access: yes, 2007
We describe an efficient surface-passivated photonic crystal nanocavity laser, demonstrating room-temperature operation with 3-ps total pulse duration (detector response limited) and low-temperature operation with ultra-low-threshold near 9uW.Comment: 6 ...

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Room temperature chemical synthesis of Bi2O3 nanoparticles

open access: yesMicro & Nano Letters, 2021
In this article, room temperature synthesis of Bi2O3 nanoparticles in a single‐pot reaction is reported. The nanoparticles were synthesized by reducing Bi(NO3)3·5H2O with NaBH4 as a reducing agent, SDS and oleic acid as stabilizing agents.

Temperature dependent graphene suspension due to thermal Casimir interaction

open access: yes, 2012
Thermal effects contributing to the Casimir interaction between objects are usually small at room temperature and they are difficult to separate from quantum mechanical contributions at higher temperatures.

Sequence determinants of RNA G‐quadruplex unfolding by Arg‐rich regions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We show that Arg‐rich peptides selectively unfold RNA G‐quadruplexes, but not RNA stem‐loops or DNA/RNA duplexes. This length‐dependent activity is inhibited by acidic residues and is conserved among SR and SR‐related proteins (SRSF1, SRSF3, SRSF9, U1‐70K, and U2AF1).

Photoactivated room temperature phosphorescence from lignin

open access: yesNature Communications
Sustainable photoactivated room temperature phosphorescent materials exhibit great potential but are difficult to obtain. Here, we develop photoactivated room temperature phosphorescent materials by covalently attaching lignin to polylactic acid, where ...
