Border row effects improved the spatial distributions of maize and peanut roots in an intercropping system, associated with improved yield

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
BackgroundBorder row effects impact the ecosystem functions of intercropping systems, with high direct interactions between neighboring row crops in light, water, and nutrients.

Cell Production and Expansion in the Primary Root of Maize in Response to Low-Nitrogen Stress

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2014
Maize plants respond to low-nitrogen stress by enhancing root elongation. The underlying physiological mechanism remains unknown. Seedlings of maize (Zea mays L., cv.

Aortic Root Diameter and Longitudinal Blood Pressure Tracking [PDF]

open access: yesHypertension, 2008
Proximal aortic diameter, including aortic root (AoR) diameter, has been inversely related to pulse pressure in cross-sectional studies. So, investigators have hypothesized that a smaller AoR diameter may increase the risk of developing hypertension. Prospective studies are lacking to test this hypothesis.

Effect of Different Types of Mulching on Soil Properties and Tree Growth of Magnolia champaca Planted at the Montane Rainforest in Cameron Highlands, Pahang, Malaysia

open access: yesInternational Journal of Forestry Research, 2021
Tropical Montane Cloud Forest (TMCF) is among the most vulnerable habitats to fragmentation, deforestation, and global climate change. A successful restoration program requires a comprehensive understanding of variables influencing seedling efficiency ...

Interaction between carrot root dimensions and puncture force [PDF]

open access: yesJournal on Processing and Energy in Agriculture, 2011
The aim of this research was to determine quantitatively carrot root mass and dimensions depending on the cultivation type (flat ground and ridge), as well as to determine the differences in the root texture by measuring the puncture force in xylem and ...

Genetic dissection of root traits in a rice ‘global MAGIC’ population for candidate traits to breed for reduced methane emission

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science
Rice cultivation is critical for global food security. The largely practiced method of rice cultivation by transplantation under flooded fields contributes significantly to methane (CH4) emissions, posing challenges to climate-smart agriculture.

Effectiveness of photon-initiated photoacoustic streaming in root canal models with different diameters or tapers

open access: yesBMC Oral Health, 2021
Background This study aimed to compare the use of photon-initiated photoacoustic streaming (PIPS) and conventional needle irrigation (CNI) in conjunction with different concentrations of sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) to remove Enterococcus faecalis (E ...

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Salmonella lipopolysaccharide‐containing supported lipid bilayers as platforms to study bacteriophage interactions

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We present robust protocols for the preparation of supported lipid bilayers (SLBs) incorporating either Salmonella smooth LPS or outer membrane vesicles (OMVs). We use a combination of quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation (QCM‐D) and fluorescence microscopy to both characterize the SLBs of various compositions and to probe their interactions ...
