Planting Roots, Claiming Space

NACLA Report on the Americas, 2018
In the early twentieth century, the United States began to settle the arid regions of the West. At the same time, agricultural experts around the world started to develop a new agroecological zone:...

Root phosphatase activity aligns with the collaboration gradient of the root economics space

New Phytologist, 2021
Summary The adoption of diverse resource acquisition strategies is critical for plant growth and species coexistence. Root phosphatase is of particular importance in the acquisition of soil phosphorus (P), yet it is often overlooked in studies of root trait syndromes.

ROOT SPACE UNDERNEATH TRAFFIC LANES

Arboricultural Journal, 2008
Summary Tree roots need certain essential conditions for optimal growth. These include, for instance: enough space, enough ground air ventilation and moisture, sufficient amounts of macro- and micro-nutrients, as well as the existence of symbionts. However, these conditions are not always found at potential rooting zones for urban street trees. Rooting

Root surface temperatures produced during post space preparation

Journal of Endodontics, 1996
In vitro root surface temperatures produced during post space preparation were measured. The preparations were made using a GPX bur with rotational speeds of 6,500, 8,000, 9,500, 11,000, and 15,000 rpm. The overall mean temperature increase ranged from 0.66 degree to 4.81 degrees C and was greatest at 8,000 rpm.

Measurement of root porosity (volume of root air space

Environmental and Experimental Botany, 1988
Abstract Root research can benefit under many circumstances from determination of the % fraction of root volume occupied by air (root porosity). Root porosity provides an indication of root reaction or adaptability to environments with insufficient oxygen availability.

Relativistic square-root spaces∗

2013
AbstractEinstein's derivation of the Lorentz transformation between space and time coordinates is given. The resulting relativistic kinematics of £  Lorentz spacetime and momentum-energy vectors is readily applied to practical problems by using their scalar products that are Lorentz-invariant, the same in every Lorentz frame.

Dowel space management in obstructed root canals

The Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry, 1994
A modified instrument developed from readily available materials to provide dentists with a multifaceted system to eliminate obstructions from root canals and provide space for a dowel core restoration is presented.

From Isomorphic Rooted Trees to Isometric Ultrametric Spaces

p-Adic Numbers, Ultrametric Analysis and Applications, 2018
Associated with each finite ultrametric space \((X,d)\) is a rooted tree \(T_X\). Let Sp\((X)\) denote the spectrum of \(X\). The authors address the question when does a finite ultrametric space \((X,d)\) satisfy the condition: if \((Y,\rho)\) is a finite ultrametric space such that \(T_X\) is isomorphic to \(T_Y\) and Sp\((X)=\mathrm{Sp}(Y)\) then \((
