Multivariate root-n-consistent smoothing parameter-free matching estimators and estimators of inverse density weighted expectations

open access: yesThe Annals of Statistics
Expected values weighted by the inverse of a multivariate density or, equivalently, Lebesgue integrals of regression functions with multivariate regressors occur in various areas of applications, including estimating average treatment effects, nonparametric estimators in random coefficient regression models or deconvolution estimators in Berkson errors-

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

THE GROWTH AND YIELD TRAITS OF SWEET WAXY MAIZE UNDER NPK FERTILIZER APPLICATION WITH VARIOUS PLANT DENSITY [PDF]

open access: yesRussian Journal of Agricultural and Socio-Economic Sciences
One of the problems in the development of waxy maize is low production. The applications of agronomic technology such as plant density and fertilizer application are known to improve growth and increase corn yields.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Gene Effect of Morphophysiological Traits in Popcorn (Zea mays L. var. everta) Grown Under Contrasting Water Regimes

open access: yesAgriculture
To propose breeding strategies for drought conditions, we investigated gene expression associated with morphophysiological traits in four S7 popcorn (Zea mays var. everta) inbred lines using a partial diallel cross design with two testers.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

INFLUENCE OF LOW-FREQUENCY ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD ON THE VEGETATIVE GROWTH OF GRAPE CV. USLU [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Central European Agriculture, 2007
Low-frequency electromagnetic fi eld (ELF) at 50 Hz, 0.15 mT was applied to canes of ‘Uslu’ grape for 5, 10, 15 and 20 minutes. The canes were prepared by cutting them into 50-60 mm one-bud scions.

Degradation mechanism of the von Willebrand factor A2 domain by nattokinase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nattokinase, a natto‐derived protease, exhibits potent antithrombotic effects. This study demonstrates that nattokinase directly cleaves the von Willebrand factor (vWF) A2 domain in vitro. Unlike the native regulator ADAMTS13, nattokinase degrades folded vWF independently of shear stress.

Comparison of Physiological, Anatomical, and Morphological Traits between Sugarcane Hybrids and Their Parents with Different Stalk Dry Weights in the Early Growth Stage under Hydroponic Conditions

open access: yesAgriculture, 2023
The high stalk weight sugarcane cultivar has a special mechanism to obtain greater growth, which was inherited from its parents. Thus far, comparisons of the high stalk weight sugarcane cultivar growth with its parents and cultivars with a low stalk ...
