Rainforest conversion to monoculture plantations restructures functional communities of braconid parasitoid wasps

open access: yesOikos, EarlyView.
The conversion of rainforests into rubber and oil palm plantations drives biodiversity loss in Southeast Asia. Parasitoid wasps are highly diverse and play an essential role in ecosystems by regulating herbivore populations. Declines in density and diversity of parasitoid wasps, after land‐use change is well‐documented, but potential functional losses ...

Capsicum chinense as an African traditional vegetable: Culture, resilience, and opportunity

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Capsicum chinense is central to everyday diets, cultural identity, and smallholder livelihoods across Sub‐Saharan Africa, yet remains overlooked in agricultural research and policy. This paper reframes C. chinense as a traditional, climate‐resilient vegetable shaped by centuries of farmer stewardship and cultural selection.

Planting for healthy air: Urban biodiversity enhances natural chemical environments

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Cities urgently need nature to improve public health, support biodiversity, and increase resilience to climate change. Yet not all green spaces offer the same benefits. In this study, we show that more diverse urban plantings create richer “chemical environments”; subtle, naturally scented atmospheres formed by plant emissions that can influence how ...

Target‐site mutations and phenotypic failure in Myzus persicae against pyrethroids and carbamates in central Europe

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Molecular screening of 140 field‐collected Myzus persicae aphids revealed target‐site mutations L1014F, M918L, M918T, and L932F in the sodium channel and S431F in Ace2. The M918L mutation was the primary driver of high pyrethroid (cypermethrin) resistance, while S431F served as a definitive marker for carbamate (pirimicarb) resistance.
