Drought Stress Mediated Changes in Food Crops: Mechanisms and Remediation Strategies

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work presents a multi‐scale framework for flavonoid‐mediated drought tolerance in staple food crops, integrating ROS redox regulation, antioxidant defense, rhizosphere microbial interactions, and sustainable agronomic practices. This interdisciplinary model provides core insights to develop climate‐resilient cropping systems and enhance global ...

The Ncm-1 gene for resistance to Cucumber mosaic virus in yellow lupin (Lupinus luteus): molecular studies and marker development [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV) is an important virus pathogen of lupins in Australia which causes serious yield losses of up to 60% in epidemic years. In commercially grown lupin (Lupinus angustifolius and L.

DNA Nanotechnology Meets Peptide and Protein Self‐Assembly

open access: yesChemistry – A European Journal, EarlyView.
Combining DNA nanotechnology with peptide and protein assembly provides complementary platforms for the rational engineering of functional biomaterials. This Perspective discusses the emerging field of self‐assembling DNA‐peptide and DNA‐protein hybrid systems that combine the structural precision and programmability of DNA nanotechnology with the ...

Evidence for RNA recombination between distinct isolates of Pepino mosaic virus. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Genetic recombination plays an important role in the evolution of virus genomes. In this study we analyzed publicly available genomic sequences of Pepino mosaic virus (PepMV) for recombination events using several bioinformatics tools.

Capsicum chinense as an African traditional vegetable: Culture, resilience, and opportunity

open access: yesPLANTS, PEOPLE, PLANET, EarlyView.
Capsicum chinense is central to everyday diets, cultural identity, and smallholder livelihoods across Sub‐Saharan Africa, yet remains overlooked in agricultural research and policy. This paper reframes C. chinense as a traditional, climate‐resilient vegetable shaped by centuries of farmer stewardship and cultural selection.

Effect of Biodiversity Changes in Disease Risk: Exploring Disease Emergence in a Plant-Virus System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The effect of biodiversity on the ability of parasites to infect their host and cause disease (i.e. disease risk) is a major question in pathology, which is central to understand the emergence of infectious diseases, and to develop strategies for their ...

Target‐site mutations and phenotypic failure in Myzus persicae against pyrethroids and carbamates in central Europe

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Molecular screening of 140 field‐collected Myzus persicae aphids revealed target‐site mutations L1014F, M918L, M918T, and L932F in the sodium channel and S431F in Ace2. The M918L mutation was the primary driver of high pyrethroid (cypermethrin) resistance, while S431F served as a definitive marker for carbamate (pirimicarb) resistance.

Coalescence of the sites of cowpea mosaic virus RNA replication into a cytopathic structure [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
Cowpea mosaic virus (CPMV) replication induces an extensive proliferation of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) membranes, leading to the formation of small membranous vesicles where viral RNA replication takes place.

Identifying resistance‐conferring cytochrome P450s in weeds: experimental strategies and practical considerations

open access: yesPest Management Science, EarlyView.
Identifying resistance‐conferring cytochrome P450s requires integrating weed characterization, gene discovery and functional validation. No single approach is sufficient to distinguish causal resistance genes from herbicide‐metabolizing enzymes. Abstract Cytochrome P450 monooxygenases (P450s) play a pivotal role in metabolic herbicide resistance, yet ...
